Kevin Barry čtenářům servíruje hostinu opulentní nejen pitoreskností postav či prostředí, ale zejména jazykem. Rytmizovaná próza využívající nespočet jazykových vrstev, od dialektů, přes vulgarismy až po novotvary, vás i díky vynikajícímu překladu Aleny Dvořákové strhne stejně rychle jako proud řeky Bohane.
Broukobol
Broukobol se točí kolem postavy Johna Lennona, člena legendární britské kapely Beatles. Zachycuje bývalého Brouka v roce 1978, na sklonku života i kariéry, a splétáním fikce a faktu vytváří jakýsi portrét umělce v neplodných letech. Je to ovšem portrét komicky zatížený osobností vypravěče. Ten se při svém putování v Lennonových stopách vypravuje do tajemných míst včetně jednoho pustého západoirského ostrova , v nichž je zvláštním způsobem polapena minulost: lze ji tam odkoukat a odposlouchat, a tak ji znovu prožít. Broukobol je vlastně polyfonní skladba v próze, nahrávka koncertu odposlechnutých hlasů včetně mistrně zachyceného hlasu samotného Lennona.
