Anton Corbijn s new feature film is a suspense thriller titled The American, starring George Clooney. Its world-wide release is scheduled for fall 2010. Based on Martin Booth s 1992 novel A Very Private Gentleman, the movie is set in Sweden and in the Abruzzo region of Italy. The protagonist is a gunsmith and sometime hitman who tries to change his life, only to find out the hard way that you can t undo the past. Not one to give up on his old life, director-cumphotographer Anton Corbijn daily took his stillcamera to the set, and this book is the proof of that. Filled with candid on- and off set photographs accompanied by Corbijn s diary style writing, it provides a unique insight into the making of The American.

Corbijn's interest in music has been the engine of an illustrious decades-long career that has most recently involved the making of feature length films such as The American, A Most Wanted Man and Life, due to be released in 2015. This gloriously illustrated, oversized book pays homage to Corbijn's obsession with rock and roll-an interest that has led to lifelong friendships with Bono, Michael Stipe, Dave Gahan and other iconic musicians. Looking back over three decades, it features hundreds of creative, offbeat images that Corbijn was able to capture largely as a result of his close relationships with his subjects. Nearly every revered musician and band is represented in Corbijn's archives: Nick Cave to Nirvana, U2 to R.E.M., the Rolling Stones to Siouxie and the Banshees. Many of the portraits are accompanied by their subjects' own take on Corbijn's distinct style and approach. Also included here are previously unpublished photos of the late Joe Cocker and the band Depeche Mode, who considered him an honorary member. A fitting tribute to an innovative and deeply passionate photographer, this book will rock fans of music and photography.

The book contains some 100 photographs, many of them published for the first time, and its world premiere will be in Knokke-Heist, running from 4 April to 5 July 2020. Anton Corbijn, born in 1955 in Strijen (NL), lives and works in The Hague (NL). Corbijn was born in the Netherlands, but lived and worked in London for 30 years. He is best known for his black and white photographs of actors, musicians and artists, though he cannot be seen as a celebrity photographer - rather as someone who captures personalities that intrigue him. Some of his photographs have become iconic images of modern pop culture. Besides his photographic oeuvre, Corbijn has designed stages, directed music videos and directed feature films. In 2007 he made his film debut with Control, about the life of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis. In 2014 his film A Most Wanted Man was released and in 2015 his new film Life - about the friendship between actor James Dean and photographer Dennis Stock - had its premiere. The artist has had major solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Bucerius Kunst Forum in Hamburg, Fotografiska in Stockholm, FOMU in Antwerp, Gemeentemuseum in The Hague, S.M.A.K. in Ghent, Kestner Gesellschaft in Hannover, Groninger Museum in Groningen, Münchner Stadtmuseum in Munich, Museum Morsbroich in Leverkusen, Museum Moderne Kunst in Dresden, Foam in Amsterdam, Museum Bochum, Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Palazzo Fortuny in Venice, Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Bologna, Castello di Rivoli in Turin, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, amongst many others.

In November 2020, Depeche Mode were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and Dave Gahan, accepting the honour, said: "I'd like to thank Anton Corbijn who thank God came in at the right time and actually made us look cool." Also in the fall of 2020, TASCHEN released the limited edition Depeche Mode by Anton Corbijn (81-18) signed by Depeche Mode and Anton Corbijn, and it became one of the fastest selling collector's editions in the publishing company's history. This pocket-sized and wallet-friendly edition is a testament to Corbijn's unique vision, and indeed "cool" as Gahan acknowledged so movingly in his speech; an illustrated history of how Corbijn, who became in 1986 the band's de facto creative director, and helped cement Depeche Mode's reputation as the biggest cult band in the world.Featuring over 150 photographs from Corbijn's extensive archives, including formal and informal portraits from places such as Madrid, Hamburg, the California desert, Prague and Marrakech; a multitude of off-the-cuff, candid images; and stunning live shots from all their tours since 1988 right up to 2023. Created with the full collaboration of the band, who share some insights on working with Corbijn, Depeche Mode by Anton Corbijn trumpets how one man's original aesthetic, that has encompassed all of their photography, most of their music videos, album graphics and set designs, helped shape the band's enduring popularity. Reflecting on his role in Depeche Mode, Corbijn recalls in the book's introduction: "A lot of it came down to me, and I wanted it to be right for them. I wanted to think for them.
