Dobrodružství historické interpretace
Kolekce devatenácti esejů z pera významných historiků dokládá rozmanitost vědeckých přístupů. Jejich práce s historickými prameny, základními kameny bádání, je kombinována s etickým i estetickým rozhodováním, které tvoří nezpochybnitelnou součást jejich tvorby. Ta je často překvapující – nejen pro čtenáře, ale pro ně samotné. Představuje totiž velké intelektuální dobrodružství. Nemohou si vymýšlet prameny, nemohou si stanovit svévolná pravidla, zápletky a rozuzlení, jako to může udělat romanopisec. Mohou však napsat vědecké dílo, které je výsledkem tvůrčího přístupu.
Oheň a hvězdy
Jak se rýmuje život, svět a mé místo v nich? Jak vstupuje do světa Dobro a jak může být i Zlo?
To jsou jedny z otázek, které si profesor Erazim Kohák klade ve své meditativní knize Oheň a hvězdy. Její původ sahá až do roku 1984, kdy v americkém exilu vydal knihu Embers and the Stars, která vzbudila velký ohlas. K českým čtenářům se její části dostávaly v samizdatovém překladu. Současná kniha Oheň a hvězdy však není pouhým překladem původního díla, ale spíše jakýmsi převodem, obohaceným o osobní zkušenost dalších 32 let života. Je o něco méně vědecká, ale o to více naplněná hledáním moudrosti a pro vnímavého čtenáře plná silných podnětů.
Veškeré úvahy jsou rámovány životem v přírodě, odrážejí se od žhnoucích uhlíků pohostinného ohniště, zrcadlí se v záři hvězdné oblohy takové, kterou ve městech nikdy neuvidíme, neboť civilizace nám mnohé dala (například noční osvětlení), ale i vzala (hvězdnou oblohu, která je zastíněna světelným smogem). Příroda je mu místem hlubokého otevření se světu, životu, lásce a porozumění.
Erazim Kohák, jeden z nejvýznamnějších představitelů ekologické etiky, však nikdy nemoralizuje a nevidí věci černobíle; to, co hledá, je vzájemný respekt, rovnováha mezi moderním životem a přírodou.

Ano, řidič trolejbusu může ve své práci vnitřně růst každým dnem. A každý den může i druhým lidem ukazovat poezii, krásu a něhu v nitru bytí. Tomáš, osvobozený od pout konvenčního prožívání, to dělá...

Úvahy a komentáře
Výběr článků Vlastimila Vondrušky, publikovaných v deníku MF Dnes v letech 2015 až 2020, je pestrým přehledem toho, co se dnes děje. Autor, známý svými liberálně – konzervativními postoji, reaguje v komentářích na aktuální politické dění. Úvahy se pak zabývají širšími historickými kořeny a společenskými souvislostmi takových jevů, jako jsou demokracie, svoboda slova, demagogie, migrace, rodina či tradice.
