A nő, aki cipel, a nő, aki kihord, a nő, aki keres, aki emlékszik, aki továbblép. Rendet rak, helyet teremt. A nő ezer színét látjuk meg, a nő ezer mozdulata válik mondattá Szabó Imola Julianna érzékenyen megírt verseiben. Terék Anna Borítóterv és illusztráció: Szabó Imola Julianna

Istenek a körfolyosón

Mitikus séta a nagyvárosi tájban. Istenekkel feleselő női kórus. Lírai kószálók drámai megfigyelései. A trolin, a Szövetség utcában, a Lövölde téren, a Keletinél. A körfolyosón.

Grznárovú považujeme obrovský talent a veľkú nádej slovenskej poézie.

Late—Later

In this extraordinary debut collection, Kathleen Bridget Eva O’Hanlon dives deeply into a personal history that holds a mirror up to all the ways we piece together a lifetime of memories to weave a story of our many connected selves. Rich in references to literature, history, myth and culture, the poetry here remains accessible and resonant, clear-eyed, acutely observant and bristling with intelligent humour. We are reminded of the ways fragments of our pasts become defining moments – the casual remark to a child over a Crunchie bar that remains brutally clear decades later, the act of undemonstrative kindness that makes a child feel seen and valued in the simple gift of a wooden butter curler, the radical grandmother who ‘called a penis, a penis’, the life events and ordinary days that mark us – from almost marrying Casanova to childbirth, from our hungry ghosts to the way insomnia blurs into vision, threading loss and memory. It’s late and getting later, but still there is wit and life, still there is a legacy to leave and hope to insist on, memories that reshape both past and future. Still there is a credo – in the ‘great and final roar that is to come’ and in love.

Sublime Lungs

In Sublime Lungs Kate Noakes turns her attention to the breath. For the first time, she explores her lifelong asthma and explains the impact of this chronic and disabling condition. The breath and breathing are subjects for poems from many chronologies and geographies in this her ninth collection. ‘If one measure of a poet’s line is their breath, then you’d expect a poet with asthma to be a little curtailed by it. Not so Kate Noakes. Sublime Lungs finds poem after poem burgeoning out of the condition and leading her to find no trace of Keats in Rome, but allegories in witchcraft, Kent Marsh Frogs or Blade Runner, and to have a double-edged view of nature, which for her can be kill or cure. Whether in Machu Picchu or Boston Library, referencing Charles Olson in Gloucester, or relating to lovers and children, Noakes starts from the breath in her lungs and takes off into air.’ — MATTHEW CALEY‘From Egyptian breath cures to Katherine Mansfield’s inhaler to the thin air of the Rocky Mountains and Machu Picchu, Kate Noakes’ latest collection evokes all the elements of a life lived with asthma. With each successive poem, Sublime Lungs expands the scope of how this condition affects one’s experience of the world in poems by turns witty and moving. This is poetry that attunes us to the nuances of our own embodiment.’ — CARRIE ETTER

Lightship

Twenty years ago, Bruce Ackerley won Cinnamon Press’s inaugural poetry collection prize with his debut, Sound of Mountain, of which RV Bailey wrote: ‘finely crafted, lyrical and spare… with a musical ear for landscape and relationships. An interesting, individual voice, he writes with power and sensitivity.’In Lightship, Ackerley now brings together his finest writing from two decades, the voice confident and supple with a deepened lyricism and an acute sense of what to say, and what not to say, each poem is a honed gem—poised and resonant. Ranging across the natural and supernatural, the solace and joys of art, film and music, love, grief and sexuality, and the vicissitudes of mental health, Lightship is both an internal record and a reaching out. A moving, distinctive piece de résistance.

. . . AGAIN

Award-winning poet Mark Nowak returns with a harrowing documentation of the expansive landscape of MAGAmerica. Told through five abecedarian prose sections, . . . AGAIN is a photo-text commentary on MAGAism in America. In his sobering voice, Nowak captures the depredations of capitalism, the desensitizing regularity of mass shootings, and the extremism that has fueled white nationalism. From the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and the January 6 insurrection through Donald Trump’s re-election, Nowak chronicles the transformations as the seasons change around him, attempting to make sense of a bitterly divided nation that elected a polarizing figurehead . . . again.

Transience

In Transience, Nick Jones moves across the themes that touch on our fragility and mortality. What do we really believe? How do we live as creatures in time, juggling fate and history? How do we navigate the best and worst of human impact on the earth and one anothe? ransience touches everything and none of us escape without loss. And yet at the heart of it all, love remains, conjured here with poignant elegance and with thanks for all that has been. An expansive, tender collection.

The Kind Company of Others

A poet’s skill lies in their ability to distil complex themes into a few paragraphs; to pick out the fundamental quality in people that make us unique; they can describe nature in a way that makes us see its majesty. The poet traverses contents and political divides; they help us understand where we have come from which in turn allows us to figure out where we are going. And no one does this better than Alexander McCall Smith. He has brought – through his novels – many wonderful characters to vivid life and entertained readers all over the globe. And in his third collection of poetry, he guides the reader by the hand and takes them through time and place exploring the majestic themes of nature and the complexities of relationships and what it is that makes us human with his trademark warmth and humour.

A hoci Válek začínal očarený krásou a duchovnosťou sveta, pribúdajúcimi skúsenosťami sa z ilúzií o láske, dobre či spravodlivosti nedobrovoľne vyliečil... Ján Gavura Miroslav Válek (1927 – 1991) vydal básnické zbierky Dotyky (1959), Príťažlivosť (1961), Nepokoj (1963) a Milovanie v husej koži (1965), ku ktorým neskôr pribudla poéma Slovo (1976). Ďalšia Válkova bibliografia odráža paradoxnosť doby a výnimočnosť autorovho postavenia v slovenskej literatúre a kultúre. Valér Mikula) a Miroslav Válek Domáca úloha (FACE – Fórum alternatívnej kultúry a vzdelávania, 2018, ed. Peter Tollarovič).

Looting Hummingbirds

In the first quarter of the 20th century, Daniel Thaly of Dominica, then a British Caribbean colony, was one of France’s most celebrated poets. He was educated in Martinique and then at medical school in France before returning to Dominica. His illustrious reputation crumbled when radicals in the emerging anti-colonial Negritude movement criticised his work. From then on he wrote little. Here for the first time in English (and French) we can read a selection of his lyrical and passionate poems - many about Dominica - alongside an introduction that pieces together what little is known of his life.

Collected Poems

For the first time, this volume gathers together all Tobias Hill’s poems from his four full-length collections in one beautiful and collectable paperback edition, introduced by Maura Dooley. The Collected Poems marks an important moment in British poetry, drawing together Hill’s work from his Eric Gregory Award-winning debut, Year of the Dog (1995), to the bestselling Nocturne in Chrome & Sunset Yellow (2006). Hill’s celebrated ‘urban pastoral’ was decadent yet austere, driven through radical visual desire. Here in one volume we can see the extent of his imaginative journey, travelling through towns and cityscapes, presenting a simmering world of captured lives, haunting, but filled with charm and wit. The early work is dominated by Japan, where Hill lived for two years, yet it is his beloved London that becomes the imaginative centre of his work, filled with the sensuous intensity of that great city. Tobias Hill was selected as one of the country’s Next Generation poets in 2004, shortlisted for the 2004 Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year and named by the TLS as one of the best young writers in the country.
