Děti se silnou krví mizejí ze světa a tajný řád sowragů pomalu, ale jistě vymírá. Vhodný adept však na Wanoru přece jen přichází. Než se ovšem jediná dívka mezi novici napije okha’tatsovy krve, bude muset projít výcvikem napínajícím tělesné i duševní síly k nesnesení.
A nakonec je tu svérázný mořeplavec posedlý prohnilou ženou. Vymanit se z osidel krásné čarodějnice se zdá zhola nemožné, a tak nastal čas porušit slib, vyplout své temné lásce vstříc a podstoupit tu nejtěžší zkoušku ze všech — zkoušku lidské vůle.

Čo sa začína ako fraška, prerastá do boja o autonómiu, keď sa Waynov romantický idealizmus stretáva s apatiou a cynizmom jeho súčasníkov. Prostredníctvom tohto komického stretu Chesterton skúma paradoxy vlastenectva, absurdity byrokracie a trvalú silu miestnej hrdosti. S vtipom a nápaditým citom zostáva Napoleon z Notting Hillu nadčasovou meditáciou o význame komunity a potrebe nachádzať zázrak aj na tých najobyčajnejších miestach.
V anglických literárnych kruhoch sa často špekulovalo, či Chestertonov príbeh čiastočne neinšpiroval letopočet v názve slávneho románu Georga Orwella.

Smrti, smrď
Jednadvacet povídek a nepohádek, jejímž společným jmenovatelem je Smrt. Nicméně autor zdůrazňuje, že nejde o texty velebící Smrt, nýbrž texty oslavující Život. Snad je to i jemně naznačeno v samotném titulu – Smrti, smrď! A snad je to i naznačeno v závěru stejnojmenné pohádky, kde je psáno, že „Smrt chodí vždy jen tam, kde se žije“. Kniha by ráda byla určitým mementem, jak moc je třeba Život chránit a bránit, nehazardovat s ním, vážit si jej jako celku, bez rozdílu komu právě náleží, tak jako posléze nedává rozdílu, komu náleží Smrt. Čtěte tedy, prosím, příběhy – někdy temné a drsné, pohádkové i fantastické, i úsměvné a provokující – s pokorou ke Smrti a úctou k Životu.
Povídky doprovázejí koláže autora. Snad ještě malé upozornění na závěr – zde uvedené texty nejsou příliš vhodné pro děti.
V mojej knihe nie
Rosie Maxwellová má jasný plán! Chce sa stať uznávanou autorkou ľúbostných románov, a tak sa zapojí do programu kreatívneho písania Newyorskej univerzity. Všetko je dokonalé až do chvíle, keď sa ocitne v jednej triede so svojím úhlavným nepriateľom Aidenom Huntigtonom. Áno, možno sa jej kedysi páčil, a áno, rozhodne je až rozčuľujúco príťažlivý, ale všetko kazí svojou mrzutou a neznesiteľnou povahou. Zdá sa, že ani on ako autor existenčných románov nemá trpezlivosť s Rosie a jej romantickými nezmyslami. Profesorka, unavená ich večnými hádkami, im dá na výber – buď opustia jej kurz, alebo spoločne napíšu román, v ktorom prepoja oba svoje žánre. Rosie a Aiden sa rozhodnú spolupracovať a pustia sa do písania prekvapivo vzrušujúceho príbehu. Možno je toto ten najlepší spôsob, ako sa uvoľniť a preskúmať vzájomnú príťažlivosť. Sľubne sa vyvíjajúci projekt však narazí na prekážku a nezhody medzi Rosie a Aidenom opäť naplno prepuknú. Každý má totiž inú predstavu o tom, ako by sa mal skončiť ich spoločný ľúbostný príbeh.
