Kniha Neprakta je vydána k výročí 100 let od narození výtvarníka, ilustrátora a karikaturisty Jiřího Wintera (1924–2011), který zaujímá výrazné místo ve výtvarném umění druhé poloviny 20. století. Dosavadní publikace shrnující Nepraktova díla přinášely výhradně výběr kresleného humoru a jen okrajově se dotkly ostatní, neméně obsáhlé tvorby. Tato publikace se věnuje nejen pohledu na výtvarné dílo, ale i teoretickému zařazení „fenoménu Neprakta“ do souvislostí společenských, historických a uměleckých. Zahrnuje Winterovo dílo do kontextu doby a v několika odborných studiích popisuje vývoj české, respektive československé karikatury ve druhé polovině 20. století a přibližuje také úzkou spolupráci Wintera se všemi jeho námětáři.
Pod kolektivním pseudonymem NEPRAKTA se zpočátku skrývali dva umění milovní přátelé a sběratelé starožitností, pánové Bedřich Kopecný – námětář a Jiří Winter – výtvarník. Dvacetiletá plodná a úspěšná spolupráce skončila úmrtím Bedřicha Kopecného. Novým námětářem zavedené firmy se poté stal Miloslav Švandrlík, autor románu Černí baroni. Za třicet let spolupráce ilustroval Jiří Winter Neprakta téměř stovku Švandrlíkových knih a vytvořil přes 20 000 kreslených vtipů ve velké většině na Švandrlíkovy náměty. Během celkem padesáti let Jiří Winter publikoval 35 000 kreseb a vtipů. Toto rozsáhlé dílo bylo uznáno světovým rekordem se zápisem do knihy rekordů.
Díky přístupu editora k obsáhlému archivu originálních kreseb, modernímu polygrafickému zpracování a reprodukování ve špičkové kvalitě a velkém formátu nabízí kniha unikátní souhrn Nepraktovy tvorby. Vůbec poprvé je tak doloženo výjimečné období, kdy se česká „karikatura“ měnila v „cartoons“.

Tato velká monografie, má jednoduchý, a přitom nesmírně ambiciózní cíl – komplexně představit rozsáhlé Kašparovo knižní ilustrační dílo, které dosud v této podobě chybělo. Představuje nikoli výběr, ale soubor všech Kašparových knižních ilustrací, které byly až dosud rozptýleny v třiaosmdesáti knihách. Na více jak 3000 ilustracích, jimiž doprovodil většinu zásadních románů a sbírek povídek českých autorů 19. a počátku 20. století – Němcové, Jiráska, Raise, Nerudy, Vrchlického a dalších, vykreslil náladu národní historie i tehdejší přítomnosti, které mají také pro současnost historický a dokumentační význam.

Kniha nie je koncipovaná ako tradičná akademická monografia, ale ako púť časom, počas ktorej sa zlomky poznania skladajú do celkového obrazu životnej tvorby. Ján Ťapák, absolvent katedry sochárstva na Vysokej škole výtvarných umení v Bratislave, vždy radšej modeluje hmotu do priestoru, akoby ju odoberal z kameňa. Vytváranie sochy z ničoho mu je oveľa bližšie. Jeho bronzové kompozície majú energiu umeleckej myšlienky, ale sú aj lyrickým vyznením intímnych príbehov.

This narrative, richly illustrated publication maps the three decades of the art Slovak sculptor Ján Ťapák (born 1962) has created and celebrates his life.
Instead of a traditional academic monograph, this book was conceived to describe a pilgrimage through time and to piece together fragments of knowledge into an overall picture of his life’s work. Ján Ťapák graduated from the Department of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and in his professional career he has always expressed a preference for shaping sculpture that occupies a physical space as if it were carved from stone. Sculpting something out of thin air resonates more with him. His bronze compositions have both the energy of artistic self-expression and the lyrical tone of intimate stories.
Leafing through the book evokes the enjoyable atmosphere that was generated when author, art historian and publicist Ľudovít Petránsky met at Ján Ťapák’s studio. As they look back at Ťapák’s career and life, there is an opportunity to get better acquainted with him and the transformations he has undergone in an often-troubled world.
