New possibilities for painting and sculpture
A key contributor to Nouveau Réalisme in early 1960s Paris, Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002) worked alongside artists such as Arman, Yves Klein, and Jean Tinguely, scavenging real objects in place of traditional art materials. She connected art to life by instrumentalizing household items, machine parts, and even toys for her early assemblages. Saint Phalle created her first shooting painting, or Tir, in 1961, and went on to conduct these performances in such varied locations as the Impasse Ronsin in Paris, a garden in Amsterdam, a sandpit outside Stockholm, and the Malibu Hills. Reliefs made of plaster, small objects, paint, wood, and wire were punctured by the bullets of a gun.
This book provides an introduction to Saint Phalle’s work, highlighting some of her most important contributions to 20th century art. From birthing mothers to harbingers of death, she created sculptures that celebrated and exposed the female form in works such as Pink Birth (1964) and Hon En Kathedral (1966). She also used real-life figures as inspiration: her early Nana sculptures are named after the artist’s women friends and family members. She later extended her practice to films such as Daddy (1973), artist’s books including AIDS: You Can’t Catch it Holding Hands (1987), and the Tarot Garden, a monumental sculpture park with figures modeled on the 22 named cards of the Major Arcana figures in the Tarot deck, the karmic cards of destiny.

California’s architectural anomalies
At the dawn of the automobile age, Americans’ predilection for wanderlust prompted a new wave of inventive entrepreneurs to cater to this new mode of transportation. Starting in the 1920s, attention-grabbing buildings began to appear that would draw in passing drivers for snacks, provisions, souvenirs, or a quick meal. The architectural establishment of the day dismissed these roadside buildings as “monstrosities”.
Yet, they flourished, especially along America’s Sunbelt, and in particular, in Southern California, as proprietors indulged their creative impulses in the form of giant, eccentric constructions — from owls, dolls, pigs, and ships, to coffee pots and fruit. Their symbolic intent was guileless, yet they were marginalized by history. But, over the past 40 years, California’s architectural anomalies have regained their integrity, and are now being celebrated in this freshly revised compendium of buildings, California Crazy.
Brimming with the best examples of this architectural genre, California Crazy includes essays exploring the influences that fostered the nascent architectural movement, as well as identifying the unconventional landscapes and attitudes found on Los Angeles and Hollywood roadsides which allowed these buildings to flourish in profusion.

Publikácia je katalógom k výstave v Galérii Nedbalka. Peter Július Kern zastáva významné miesto v dejinách slovenského výtvarníctva. Inšpiráciou mu bol predovšetkým samotný Liptov. Pre neho nepredstavoval neznámu krajinu, ktorú by chcel spoznávať – naopak, dôverne ju poznal a mal ju úprimne rád. Vďaka tomu majú jeho diela špecifický náboj. Nesnažil sa zachytiť krajinu čo najvernejšie, realisticky, ale usiloval sa preniesť pocit, náladu a emóciu, ktorú v ňom krajina vzbudzovala.
Piesne z hôr a dolín
Výnimočná a rozsahom ojedinelá zbierka obsahuje 272 ľudových piesní z Podpoľania, Novohradu a Hontu. ktoré viac ako polstoročie zbieral významný slovenský folklorista, hudobník, pedagóg a predník Ľudovej hudby Ďatelinka Ondrej Molota, rodák z Fiľakova v Novohrade, generačne a účinkovaním spätý s Podpoľaním. V uvedených troch regiónoch autor desaťročia realizoval terénny výskum, neraz aj za účasti skladateľa a zberateľa Svetozára Stračinu. Harmonizáciu piesní realizovali naslovovzatí odborníci Štefan Molota, Slavomír Melicherčík, Pavol Chlebničan a Richard Golian.
Zbierka je bohato ilustrovaná tematickými reprodukciami umeleckých diel renomovaného výtvarníka Miroslava Bárdiho, ktorého umelecká tvorba je orientovaná na prírodu a hudobné motívy najmä regiónov Podpoľania, Novohradu a Hontu. Druhou skupinou ilustrácií sú fotografie zobrazujúce podpoliansku prírodu a krajinu od známeho fotografa Antona Trebuľu-Kečkára z Hriňovej, ktorý za svoju tvorbu získal viacero ocenení. Publikácia obsahuje mnoho fotografií z archívu autora a krátku biografiu Ondreja Molotu.

Kolektivní monografie vymezuje oblast svého výzkumu dvěma průsečíky. Jedním z nich jsou kognitivní přístupy v humanitních vědách – lingvistice, pedagogice a teatrologii.
