Facing Madame X
AN INITIATION INTO FEMININE POWERJamie Rose is an author and life coach mentored by legendary therapist Phil Stutz, the New York Times bestselling co-author of The Tools, and subject of the hit Netflix documentary, Stutz. Now, through her book Facing Madame X, Rose brings a woman’s perspective to his work. One of Stutz’s main teachings is that everyone has an inner enemy called “Part X”—the voice that says you’re not enough, and you’ll never succeed, so don’t even try. For women, these messages are made more potent by a patriarchy that declares that they’re not pretty, thin, young, smart, or polite as they could or should be. Rose labels the specifically pernicious way this “X” force attacks women as “Madame X.”Facing Madame X teaches readers how to identify and neutralize the inner saboteur that has suppressed, disconnected, or overpowered their potential. Through case studies of her clients and her own personal journey, Rose helps women to, finally, hear and trust their inner voice and connect to the archetypical spirit that is their birthright—the divine feminine—a powerful, creatively benevolent force that will help them reach their full, uniquely beautiful potential and create the life that always felt just beyond their grasp.
The Education of a Senator
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER USA TODAY BESTSELLER A behind-the-scenes story of the last sixty years of American politics, told with purpose and humor by a political legend who worked with ten presidents, made deals with both Obama and Trump, and believes that serving in public office is the best way to help the largest number of people and to keep our Republic from falling apart. “To read Lamar Alexander’s vivid and surprising memoir is to be in conversation with a man who knows how to tell a great story.” —Jon Meacham, Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author “What a wonderful and refreshing memoir! Lamar Alexander has been a gift to us—more interested in getting things done and improving the lives of others than in grabbing headlines and bashing an opponent. Bravo!” —Ken Burns, Filmmaker, The American Revolution “Revealing and highly entertaining...takes us inside some of the most important moments in our nation’s history.” —Karl Rove, Sr. Advisor to President George W. Bush Can we survive this?” worried friends ask Lamar Alexander. A US senator who started in JFK’s Justice Department, worked in the Nixon White House, turned down serving as GOP Watergate counsel and as Ford’s campaign manager, walked for six months across Tennessee to become governor, lost two runs for president, and served as a university president and education secretary before winning three senate terms—Lamar Alexander answers that question with a resounding, “Yes.” Over nearly six decades, Alexander saw the public arena from as many angles as any living American. With wry humor and wisdom, he reminds us that Americans have asked this question in times more troubling than today—through wars, economic panics, pandemics, and social upheaval. Alexander paints insider portraits of the ten presidents he worked with—including the one best suited to the job, the most skillful politician, most accomplished in foreign affairs, most “normal,” and another who was on his way to being the most consequential. His book is for Americans hungry for optimism and leadership. It will inspire anyone who wants to serve in public office but doesn’t know how to start. It is a blueprint for those who want to join the 519,682 Americans already elected to office and the millions who work with them. “I woke up every day thinking I might do something good for my state or country and went to bed most nights thinking that I had.” —Lamar Alexander
A Man for All Mountains
Sir John Laurence ‘Jack’ Longland (1905–1993) was one of the defining figures of British mountaineering and outdoor education in the twentieth century – a man whose influence reached from the highest mountains of the world to the classrooms, airwaves and policy rooms of post-war Britain. As a young climber, Jack Longland stood at the forefront of adventure. His eponymous climb on Clogwyn Du’r Arddu in North Wales in 1928 – the first on the crag’s imposing West Buttress – confirmed his standing among Britain’s leading rock climbers, while his 1930 ascent of Javelin Blade (E1) in Cwm Idwal was ahead of its time in terms of difficulty and boldness. Further from home, he was a member of the 1933 Everest expedition, gaining first-hand experience of the world’s highest mountain at a formative moment in Himalayan exploration; after helping to establish camp 6, he famously led his team of Sherpas down to the safety of camp 5 in a storm. His participation in the 1935 Greenland expedition further demonstrated a lifelong appetite for remote and demanding terrain. Yet Longland’s greatest legacy is how he connected mountaineering with public service. Appointed director of education for Dorset during the Second World War, and later for Derbyshire from 1949 to 1969, he became a visionary advocate for outdoor learning. In 1950 he founded White Hall, the first local authority outdoor pursuits centre in Britain, establishing a model that transformed access to the outdoors for generations of young people. He was knighted on his retirement in 1970. A respected leader within the climbing world, Longland served as chairman of the Mountain Leadership Training Board and of Plas y Brenin between 1964 and 1980, and as president of the Alpine Club from 1974 to 1976. His authority was matched by a gift for communication: he was a familiar and much-loved voice on BBC Radio, regularly contributing to Any Questions?, as well as chairing Country Questions in the 1940s and 1950s, and My Word! for twenty years from 1957. In A Man for All Mountains, the long-awaited biography of Jack Longland, Mark Lambert profiles a climber, educator and broadcaster united by a single belief: that mountains, landscapes and ideas are at their best when shared.

10 omylov, ktoré zmenili dejiny
Všetci robíme chyby, no len málokto svojím prešľapom zmení chod dejín.

Protože každý, kdo to zkusil, zemřel.
