Rosie Maxwellová má jasný plán! Chce sa stať uznávanou autorkou ľúbostných románov, a tak sa zapojí do programu kreatívneho písania Newyorskej univerzity. Všetko je dokonalé až do chvíle, keď sa ocitne v jednej triede so svojím úhlavným nepriateľom Aidenom Huntigtonom. Áno, možno sa jej kedysi páčil, a áno, rozhodne je až rozčuľujúco príťažlivý, ale všetko kazí svojou mrzutou a neznesiteľnou povahou. Zdá sa, že ani on ako autor existenčných románov nemá trpezlivosť s Rosie a jej romantickými nezmyslami. Profesorka, unavená ich večnými hádkami, im dá na výber – buď opustia jej kurz, alebo spoločne napíšu román, v ktorom prepoja oba svoje žánre.
