V roce 2004 vydavatelství Dark Horse Comics najalo úspěšného comicsového scénáristu Kutra Busieka (Zázraky), aby napsal scénáře pro novou comicsovou řadu s Conanem v hlavní roli. Ten se spojil s mladým malířem Cary Nordem, který nakreslil několik zkušebních stránek na kterých Conan bojuje s obří gorilou. Kresby inspirovaly specialistu na barvy Davea Stewarta k tomu, aby zvolil zcela nový styl vybarvování přímo v počítači, bez vytahování obrysů tuší. Zapomeňte však na ilustrace, ze kterých čiší počítačová umělost, výsledek vypadá jako ta nejlepší práce na papíře nebo plátně. Tak vznikl nádherně barevný a stylově čistý comics, který si získal srdce čtenářů po celém světě. Jenom první sešit se musel dokonce dotiskovat čtyřikrát. Po roce vyšlo i souborné vydání, které teď vychází i u nás.
