For too long, kindergarten architects have been seemingly preoccupied with the principles of durability, maximisation of space, and minimisation of cost. Většinu budov lze označit jako obydlí, pro které se vyvinul termín vila. Jde o samostatně stojící reprezentativní rodinný dům obklopený pozemkem v zemědělské krajině nebo okolí větších měst. I když je zde předveden jen malý průřez architekturou obytných domů, kniha ukazuje ohromnou rozmanitost forem a tvarů a poskytuje mnoho úhlů pohledu na velkou část současných architektonických trendů na příkladech budov z celého světa.

The climatic development over the past years and the predicted climate change worldwide give us reason to launch a new series, which will deal with architecture in extreme environment as well as with extreme architecture in general. Special requir ements, due to climatic conditions in their increasing radicalness, do not only demand a great deal of material and workmanship but also ask for a special engineering performance and adjusted architectural concepts. This volume will feature 50-60 pro jects from climatic regions where it is extremely hot like in the deserts. Articles explain the climatic framework, in which the projects have been built and point out which materials are adequate for buildings in extremely hot areas.
