Jejím cílem není komplexně pojednat o institutu závislé práce ve všech jeho souvislostech. Monografie se naopak zabývá aktuálními otázkami, které jsou s vymezením závislé práce spojeny. Předmětem této knihy jsou jak úvahy o potřebě redefinice závislé práce, včetně možností zahraniční inspirace, tak i analýza konkrétních institutů, které jsou z pohledu vymezení závislé práce problematické. Důvodem může být jednak snížená ochrana zaměstnance, který závislou práci koná (jako je tomu u prekérního zaměstnání), jednak i to, že je sporné, zda se o závislou práci vůbec jedná. Monografie tak zkoumá poměrně nové instituty sdílené ekonomiky, digitálních platforem a crowdsourcingu, věnuje se však také odlišnostem v postavení zaměstnanců a osob samostatně výdělečně činných či právnímu postavení studentů vysokých škol konajících odborné praxe. Zabývá se i zmiňovaným prekérním zaměstnáváním v podobě dohod o pracích konaných mimo pracovní poměr a mírou, do jaké toto zaměstnávání naplňuje znaky závislé práce. Monografie pojednává rovněž o nelegální práci a jejích odpovědnostních důsledcích, o problematice faktického pracovního poměru a tzv. práce na zkoušku a jejich dopadech v případě pracovního úrazu.
