For most people in the West, the realities of life behind the Iron Curtain have faded into caricatures of police state repression and bread lines. With the world seemingly again divided between democracies and authoritarian regimes, it is essential that we understand the reality of life in the Soviet Bloc. American photojournalist Arthur Grace (born 1947) was uniquely placed to provide that context. During the 1970s and 1980s Grace traveled extensively behind the Iron Curtain, working primarily for news magazines. One of only a small corps of Western photographers with ongoing access, he was able to delve into the most ordinary corners of people's daily lives, while also covering significant events. Many of the photographs in this remarkable book are effectively psychological portraits that leave the viewer with a sense of the gamut of emotions in that era. Illustrated with over 120 black-and-white images-nearly all previously unpublished-Communism(s) gives an unprecedented glimpse behind the veil of a not-so-distant time filled with harsh realities unseen by nearly all but those that lived through it. Čo pre teba znamená slovo domov? Domov? Je to niekde v bezpečí. Niekde, kde vieš, že môžeš zostať a nemusíš ísť ďalej. Nie je to len niečo dočasné. Amin vo filme Utiecť (2021) Národ emigrantov, hovorili na začiatku dvadsiateho storočia o Slovákoch v Spojených štátoch. V priebehu polstoročia sa zo Slovenska vysťahovala takmer tretina obyvateľstva. Mnohých lákal zárobok, vidina lepšieho sveta, spravodlivosti, ale aj útek pred represiami. Slováci neutekali len do USA. Niektorých zlákala Južná Amerika, iní sa nechali nalákať vidinou robotníckeho raja v Sovietskom zväze. Ďalší utiekli, lebo vzrastajúci fašizmus v Európe ohrozoval priamo ich životy, iní odišli, lebo po vojne stratili nádej, že tu bude lepšie. Niektorí neodišli dobrovoľne, iným nádej rozpučili pásy ruských tankov v roku 1968 a inú možnosť ako odchod nevideli. A niektorí to skúšali, ale neúspešne. Emigrácia k Slovensku bytostne patrí aj dnes množstvo ľudí pracuje alebo študuje za hranicami, iní odchádzajú nastálo. Dlho sme si však mysleli, že emigrácia ako útek pred hrozbami vojny sa nás už týkať nebude. Posledné týždne nám ukázali, ako sme sa mýlili. Vojna u nášho východného suseda túto tému okamžite vniesla do našich bežných životov. Aj keď utečenecká kríza tu bola len pred pár rokmi, mnohí sa od nej cítili vzdialení. Teraz je to iné a pre ľudí, ktorí utekajú pred bombardovaním, sme jednou z prvých destinácií. Uvedomil som si to, keď som štvrtý deň vojny sedel na byte v ukrajinskom Ľvove a okolo mňa na matracoch na zemi ležali ľudia, ktorí dúfali, že ďalší deň sa im podarí prekročiť hranice na Západ. Uvedomil som si to, keď som v kolóne asi 600 áut čakal 30 hodín pred slovenskými hranicami a hovoril som si, že na rozdiel od mnohých Ukrajincov za tou hranicou mám domov a zázemie. Keď sme pripravovali prvé tohtoročné číslo štvrťročníka Príbehy 20. storočia s témou emigrácie, netušili sme, ako bytostne sa nás táto téma bude dotýkať. Že samotné Post Bellum sa bude zapájať do humanitárnej pomoci Ukrajine a že nútený odchod z krajiny pred vojnou pocítia mnohé slovenské rodiny, väčšinou vo forme pomoci, ktorú ukrajinským utečencom poskytnú. Pripomína nám to, že kým mnohí si vyberú emigráciu ako dobrovoľný krok za zmenou či lepším životom, pre iných to je naozaj nevyhnutná voľba. V prvom tohtoročnom čísle preto reagujeme na celý fenomén emigrácie od historickej až po najaktuálnejšiu. Pozeráme sa na to, ako vyzerali vysťahovalecké vlny na začiatku minulého storočia, keď sa Slováci vybrali za veľkú mláku s vidinou lepšieho zárobku, alebo keď ich naivný agitátor presvedčil, že v strednej Ázii môžu vybudovať robotnícku komúnu, kde si budú všetci rovní

Publikace jsou volně spojeny s každoročními konferencemi ČLK na stejná témata. Tato kniha se zaměřuje na pojetí důstojnosti z pohledu různých lékařských i nelékařských odborností. Na napsání celkem 38 kapitol se podílelo 43 odborníků z řad psychologů, teologů, medicínských etiků, právníků a zástupců vybraných lékařských oborů, například psychiatrie, onkologie, oftalmologie, porodnictví a neonatologie, neurologie, urgentní medicíny, praktického a preventivního lékařství či paliativní medicíny.
