The Police bola anglická rocková skupina založená v Londýne v roku 1977. Počas niekoľkých mesiacov od ich prvého koncertu sa zostava ustálila na Sting (spev, basgitara, hlavný skladateľ), Andy Summers (gitara) a Stewart Copeland (bicie, perkusie) a zostala nezmenená po zvyšok kapely histórie. The Police sa stali celosvetovo populárnymi koncom 70. a začiatkom až polovice 80. rokov 20. storočia. Objavili sa na britskej scéne novej vlny a hrali štýl rocku ovplyvnený punkom, reggae a jazzom. "Synchronicity", vydaný 17. júna 1983, je medzníkom, ktorý predstavuje vrchol tvorivých úspechov kapely. Bol to ich najväčší obchodný úspech. Ale tiež to skončilo ako ich posledný štúdiový výstup pre vnútorné nezhody medzi členmi kapely. Dnes je často považovaný za jeden z najlepších albumov všetkých čias. Album obsahuje niektoré z najikonickejších skladieb The Police, ako napríklad „Every Breath You Take“, ktorá vyhrala skladbu roka na udeľovaní cien Grammy v roku 1984 a stala sa evergreenom pop/rocku v desaťročiach po vydaní. Legendární kapela The Police, jejímž frontmanem byl nikdo jiný než Sting, vydává ke 40. výročí debutového alba Outlandos d'Amour, kterého se prodaly miliony kusů, box set Every Move You Make: The Studio Recordings. Set vyjde 16. listopadu a bude obsahovat 6 LP, které dohromady skládají kompletní diskografii The Police (Outlandos d'Amour, Reggatta de Blanc, Zenyatta Mondatta, Ghost in the Machine a Synchronicity) a 12trackové CD s názvem Flexible Strategies, které obsahuje exkluzivní bonusový materiál složený z B-side singlů, které se neobjevily na žádné desce. Remastering materiálu proběhl v Abbey Road Studios pod taktovkou renomovaného Milese Showella. Box set vyjma 180gramových vinylů obsahuje 24stránkovou fotoknihu, která obsahuje vzácné a nikdy neviděné fotografie z osobních archivů členů kapely. The Police vznikli v roce 1977 a mezi členy patřil Sting, Stewart Copeland a Andy Summers. V době působení kapely byl jejich přínos rockové hudbě ohromný. Originalita jejich hudby spočívala v mísení punku a reggae, čímž vznikal unikátní styl, který se nedá popsat jinak než jako hudba Police. Existovali totiž ve svém vlastním žánru. Celosvětově prodali přes 50 milionů alb a zaznamenali značné úspěchy v rámci hitparád. Sting, Stewart Copeland a Andy Summers zahajují 28.května comebackové turné, při kterém se snad zastaví i v Praze a při té příležitosti vychází i výběr toho nejlepšího, co The Police udělali. Severoamerická část turné The Police má na programu 44 koncertů, většina z nich je už vyprodaných. Směs rocku, reggae i nové vlny s příměsí jazzu prý fanoušci uslyší i v Evropě, Jižní Americe a Austrálii, ale termíny ještě nebyly upřesněny. Jisté ale je, že 7. července budou The Police hvězdou britské částí koncertů Live Earth, které mají upozornit na hrozbu klimaktických změn. Svět se na comeback The Police těší už od jara a Češi by je viděli poprvé. Hudebníci se od vystoupení pro Amnesty International v červnu 1986 už před fanoušky nesešli, i když oficiálně rozpad nikdy neohlásili. Rozloučili se po pěti studiových albech a posluchače od té doby udržují v napětí. Mezi 28 písněmi z pěti studiových alb je mimo jiné debutový singl z roku 1977 Fallout, nechybí ani jedna z nejznámějších a nejhranějších rockových balad 80. let Every Breath You Take, stejně jako další hity jako například Roxanne, So Lonely či Can't Stand Losing You.
