No One Is Talking About This
This is a story about a life lived in two halves.
It's about what happens when real life collides with the increasing absurdity of a world accessed through a screen.
It's about living in world that contains both an abundance of proof that there is goodness, empathy, and justice in the universe, and a deluge of evidence to the contrary.
It's a meditation on love, language and human connection from one of the most original voices of our time.
Uncivilized - A vadember
Nyers és erős. Talán veszélyes is?
Egy magányos harcos, egy vadember... egy ízig-vérig veszélyes férfi vagyok. Az esőerdő érintetlen vadonjában éltem egy olyan közösségben, amelyben feltétel nélküli tisztelet övezett, és ahol minden nő ellenkezés nélkül behódolt nekem.
Most azonban felfedeztek.
Be akar törni.
Vesd bele magad! Élvezni fogod.
"Erőteljes és provokatív regény, különösen azoknak ajánlott,
akik kedvelik a szokatlan történeteket."

From Jerusalem to a Kingdom by the Sea
Black swans - unforeseen events with extreme consequences - have formed the backdrop of the Dajani family's history for almost a century.
In From Jerusalem to a Kingdom by the Sea Adel A. Dajani, one of the first Arabs to ever go to Eton, takes us on a journey from the royal palaces of Libya where he was raised, rubbing shoulders with monarchs and presidents, to the prisons of Gaddafi where his father was a political prisoner after the deposition of the monarchy in 1969.
Dajani recounts his experiences of enshrined cultural ignorance about the Middle East and North Africa with humour and candour as he trades the playing fields of Tripoli College for those of Eton College. His journey takes us into his family history, to the Old City of Jerusalem and the orange groves of Jaffa, to the spires of Oxbridge in the 1930s and to post war London in the 1950s. We are given unique eye witness perspectives of a world in endless transition, including invaluable accounts of the Arab Spring Revolutions in Tunisia and Libya and their life-changing impact on Dajani and his young family.
Replete with vivid and memorable anecdotes, From Jerusalem to a Kingdom by the Sea is a humorous and compellingly narrated story of a generational voyage through the icebergs of international political upheavals. The reader accompanies Dajani on this voyage, buoyed by his universal themes of family, love, loss, identity and, ultimately, the triumph of the human experience in the face of adversity and displacement.

Elderflora
The epic story of the planet's oldest trees and the making of the modern world.
Humans have always revered long-lived trees. But as historian Jared Farmer reveals in Elderflora, our veneration took a modern turn in the eighteenth century, when naturalists embarked on a quest to locate and precisely date the oldest living things on earth. The new science of tree time prompted travellers to visit ancient specimens and conservationists to protect sacred groves. Exploitation accompanied sanctification, as old-growth forests succumbed to imperial expansion and the industrial revolution.
Taking us from Lebanon to New Zealand to California, Farmer surveys the complex history of the world's oldest trees, including voices of Indigenous peoples, religious figures, and contemporary scientists who study elderflora in crisis. In a changing climate, a long future is still possible, Farmer shows, but only if we give care to young things that might grow old.
Combining rigorous scholarship with lyrical writing, Elderflora chronicles the complex roles ancient trees have played in the modern world and illuminates how we might need old trees now more than ever.Historian Jared Farmer tells the globe-spanning story of humanity's deep fascination with the oldest living trees, the lessons in survival they offer us, and how to alter our behaviour so that the young trees of today can become ancient themselves.
Chasing Light
Captured in vivid colour and magnificent quality, the unique moments that photographer Stefan Forster discovers in out-of-the-way places in nature take place on adventurous backcountry trips far from civilisation, with Forster lugging up to 80 pounds in camera gear and camping equipment. With enormous enthusiasm and prepared for anything, he often hikes through remote areas for weeks at a time on his search for the extraordinary. He has taken long solo kayak expeditions along Greenland's west coast, hopped from island to island in Micronesia, and slogged through the swamps of Louisiana and Texas to find the area's most beautiful cypress trees, dodging alligators all the while.
The results are unique and fascinating photos. This book presents this young photographer's most beautiful experiences to date, including everything from rare rainstorms in the world's driest desert and the Northern Lights shimmering through icebergs to spectacular shots of the Rocky Mountains. Forster was one of the first photographers to use state-of-the-art quadcopter drones, giving his pictures fresh, new perspectives.
Stefan Forster published some of these aerial shots for the first time in Above the World - Earth Through a Drone's Eye, released by teNeues in September 2016.

Architecture
A groundbreaking history of architecture told through the relationship between buildings and energy
The story of architecture is the story of humanity. The buildings we live in, from the humblest pre-historic huts to today's skyscrapers, reveal our priorities and ambitions, our family structures and power structures. And to an extent that hasn't been explored until now, architecture has been shaped in every era by our access to energy, from fire to farming to fossil fuels.
In this ground-breaking history of world architecture, Barnabas Calder takes us on a dazzling tour of some of the most astonishing buildings of the past fifteen thousand years, from Uruk, via Ancient Rome and Victorian Liverpool, to China's booming megacities. He reveals how every building - from the Parthenon to the Great Mosque of Damascus to a typical Georgian house - was influenced by the energy available to its architects, and why this matters.
Today architecture consumes so much energy that 40% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions come from the construction and running of buildings. If we are to avoid catastrophic climate change then now, more than ever, we need beautiful but also intelligent buildings, and to retrofit - not demolish - those that remain. Both a celebration of human ingenuity and a passionate call for greater sustainability, this is a history of architecture for our times.

The Reluctant Dragon
The Reluctant Dragon is an 1898 children's story by Kenneth Grahame (originally published as a chapter in his book Dream Days), which served as the key element to the 1941 feature film with the same name from Walt Disney Productions. The story has also been set to music as a children's operetta by John Rutter, with words by David Grant. The story takes place in the Berkshire Downs in Oxfordshire (where the author lived and where, according to legend, St George did fight a dragon). It is Grahame's most famous short story. It is arguably much more well-known than Dream Days itself or the related The Golden Age. It can be seen as a prototype to most modern stories in which the dragon is a sympathetic character rather than a threat. In Grahame's story, a young boy discovers an erudite, mushroom-loving dragon living in the Downs above his home. The two become friends, but soon afterwards the dragon is discovered by the townsfolk, who send for St George to rid them of it.

Extreme Like a Girl
Whether it's diving off a cliff, cross-country skiing in Antarctica, or free climbing the Picos de Europe in Northern Spain, women in extreme sports are proving every bit as strong, determined and ambitious as their male peers. As in her extremely popular previous books, Surf Like a Girl and Skate Like a Girl, Carolina Amell has compiled spectacular photography that evokes the thrill and beauty of female nontraditional sports in every corner of the world. There's Lynn Jung tackling a parkour course with exquisite grace; Anna von Boetticher skimming the ocean floor hundreds of feet below the surface; Heather Larsen slacklining across a canyon wall; Ashley Fiolek, the world's only deaf professional motocross racer, kicking up dirt on her BMX bike; and other female wakeboarders, Pro-Base jumpers, aerobatic pilots, wingsuit pilots, and, ironically, Ironman champions. Each of the athletes contributes her own motivating words of encouragement that will inspire girls of every age and from every culture to chase their dreams, shatter every glass ceiling, kick down the men's clubhouse door-and have fun doing it all.
The Call of Cthulhu
"The Call of Cthulhu" is one of H. P. Lovecraft's best-known short stories. Written in the summer of 1926, it was first published in Weird Tales, February 1928. It is the only story written by Lovecraft in which the extraterrestrial entity Cthulhu himself makes a major appearance. It is written in a documentary style, with three independent narratives linked together by the device of a narrator discovering notes left by a deceased relative. The narrator pieces together the whole truth and disturbing significance of the information he possesses, illustrating the story's first line: "The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity; and it was not meant that we should voyage far."

Avant Gardeners
The leading edge of recent garden design has not only embraced the latest thinking in science and materials, but also appropriated ideas from related disciplines, such as architecture and product design, redefining and blurring the borders of nature and the man-made in the process.
Avant Gardeners presents the fifty most exciting and innovative contemporary garden- and landscape-design practices from around the world. The work of each designer is profiled through informative texts and projects shown in photographs and plans.
Throughout the book, essays explore the underlying principles of these highly individual approaches to creating outdoor spaces and show how a rising generation has rejected the naturalistic tradition of Western garden design, favouring instead the influences of Modernism, Postmodernism, Pop Art and Land Art.
With over 100 projects, the book is an encyclopaedic look at the most advanced contemporary thinking in garden design and offers a rich and inspirational archive for practitioners and enthusiasts – indeed for anyone who delights in the great outdoors.

International Style-World Arc
This is TASCHEN's 25th anniversary - special edition! 'Modern architecture is not a new branch of an old tree - it is an altogether new shoot rising beside the old roots' - Walter Gropius, one of the pioneers of modern architecture, on the radical departures of the 20th century. In the 1930s, the term International Style came into use to describe a new form of architecture evolved from Bauhaus and its conviction that 'form follows function'. Until the 1980s, International Style set the standard in modern building, with its logical formal idiom and rational solutions to construction problems. Combining steel, glass and concrete, it established an aesthetic founded on the sheer thrill of pushing to the limits of technical and economic viability. Hence the exhilarating skylines of metropolises worldwide - but also the desolate anonymity of modern suburban environments. This book traces the exciting evolution of a style while examining the individual and regional forms it took, and analyses the ideals and realities of architectural visions of utopia.
