Jazykovedec J. Pavlovič sa vo svojom úvode takmer výlučne venuje problematike nášho jazyka a komunikácie v ňom, teda jednej stránke Hrubaničovej textov, čo ostatne vyplýva i z jeho vzťahu k textom vo funkcii odborného lektora. Preto by bolo iste nosením dreva do hory, keby som vstupovala do jeho teritória, hoci sa ho chliac-nechtiac dotknem.

Reflections of War and Death (EN)
Anyone, as Freud tells us in Reflections on War and Death, forced to react against his own impulses may be described as a hypocrite, whether he is conscious of it or not. One might even venture to assert - it is still Freud's argument - that our contemporary civilisation favours this sort of hypocrisy and that there are more civilised hypocrites than truly cultured persons, and it is even a question whether a certain amount of hypocrisy is not indispensable to maintain civilisation.

Black Leopard, Red Wolf - Dark Star Trilogy Book 1
THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER
'Black Leopard, Red Wolf is the kind of novel I never realized I was missing until I read it. A dangerous, hallucinatory, ancient Africa, which becomes a fantasy world as well-realized as anything Tolkien made, with language as powerful as Angela Carter's. I cannot wait for the next installment' Neil Gaiman
In this stunning follow-up to his Man Booker-winning A Brief History of Seven Killings, Marlon James draws on a rich tradition of African mythology, fantasy and history to imagine an ancient world, a lost child, an extraordinary hunter, and a mystery with many answers...
'The child is dead. There is nothing left to know.'
Tracker is a hunter, known throughout the thirteen kingdoms as one who has a nose - and he always works alone. But he breaks his own rule when, hired to find a lost child, he finds himself part of a group of hunters all searching for the same boy. Each of these companions is stranger and more dangerous than the last, from a giant to a witch to a shape-shifting Leopard, and each has secrets of their own.
As the mismatched gang follow the boy's scent from perfumed citadels to infested rivers to the enchanted darklands and beyond, set upon at every turn by creatures intent on destroying them, Tracker starts to wonder: who really is this mysterious boy? Why do so many people want to stop him being found? And, most important of all, who is telling the truth and who is lying?
Marlon James weaves a tapestry of breathtaking adventure through a world at once ancient and startlingly modern. And, against this exhilarating backdrop of magic and violence, he explores the fundamentals of truth, the limits of power, the excesses of ambition, and our need to understand them all.
Black Leopard, Red Wolf is the first novel in Marlon James's Dark Star Trilogy.
'A game-changing modern fantasy classic' Financial Times
'Complex, lyrical, moving and furiously gripping... This new book will propel James into a new galaxy of literary stardom' Observer
'To call this novel original doesn't do [it] justice... James has thrown African cultures, mythologies, religions, histories, world-views and topographies into the mighty cauldron of his imagination to create a work of literary magic' New Statesman
The Yellow Wallpaper
"The Yellow Wallpaper" is a 6,000-word short story by American writer Charlotte Perkins Gilman, first published in January 1892 in New England Magazine. It is regarded as an important early work of American feminist literature, illustrating attitudes in the 19th century toward women's physical and mental health. The story is written in the first person as a series of journal entries. The narrator is a woman whose husband — a physician — has confined her to the upstairs bedroom of a house he has rented for the summer. She is forbidden from working and has to hide her journal entries from him so that she can recuperate from what he has diagnosed as a "temporary nervous depression — a slight hysterical tendency;" a diagnosis common to women in that period. The windows of the room are barred, and there is a gate across the top of the stairs, allowing her husband to control her access to the rest of the house. The story illustrates the effect of confinement on the narrator's mental health, and her descent into psychosis. With nothing to stimulate her, she becomes obsessed by the pattern and color of the room's wallpaper.

The Master Criminal
A collection of 12 stories published serially in The Ludgate, London, Jun 1897 to May 1898, in which the criminal mastermind, Felix Gryde, conducts his nefarious criminal work -- theft, kidnapping, ransom, assassination, fraud -- and he never gets caught. The author's introduction:"The history of famous detectives, imaginary and otherwise, has frequently been written, but the history of a famous criminal—never."This is a bold statement, but a true one all the same. The most notorious of rascals know that sooner or later they will be found out, and therefore they plan their lives accordingly. But they are always found out in the end. And yet there must be many colossal rascals who have lived and died apparently in the odour of sanctity. Such a character would be quite new to fiction, and herein I propose to attempt the history of the Sherlock Holmes of malefactors."Given a rascal with the intellect of the famous creation in question, and detection would be reduced to a vanishing point. It is the intention of the writer to set down here some of the wonderful adventures that befell Felix Gryde in the course of his remarkable career."

The Houses of Greenwich Village
With its patchwork of secluded courtyards, gardens and narrow tree-lined streets, New York’s Greenwich Village is one of the very few neighborhoods that still retains the charm and timelessness of old New York. In this overview of houses from the early nineteenth century to contemporary Modernist examples, Kevin Murphy explores the architecture and interiors of eighteen houses and two gardens located in what has become one of New York City’s most exclusive and desirable residential communities.Beginning with the Robert Blum House (1827), The Houses of Greenwich Village traces the rich history behind each home and delves into the compelling biographies of its original owners and architects, revealing the evolution of structure, design, and style in the neighborhood throughout the nineteenth century, as well as its vibrant and at times eccentric character into the twentieth century. The stunning photographs by Paul Rocheleau were specially commissioned for this book and give readers unprecedented access to some of the most beautiful homes in New York.
