Battle for Syria: International Rivalry in the New Middle East
An unprecedented analysis of the crucial but underexplored roles the United States and other nations have played in shaping Syria's ongoing civil war
"One of the best informed and non-partisan accounts of the Syrian tragedy yet published."-Patrick Cockburn, Independent
Syria's brutal, long-lasting civil war is widely viewed as a domestic contest that began in 2011 and only later drew foreign nations into the fray. But in this book Christopher Phillips shows the crucial roles that were played by the United States, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Qatar in Syria's war right from the start. Phillips untangles the international influences on the tragic conflict and illuminates the West's strategy against ISIS, the decline of U.S. power in the region, and much more.
Originally published in 2016, the book has been updated with two new chapters.

A szerelem foglyai

Headscarves and Hymens: Why the Middle East Needs a Sexual Revolution
In November 2011, Mona Eltahawy came to worldwide attention when she was assaulted by police during the Egyptian Revolution. She responded by writing a groundbreaking piece in Foreign Policy entitled 'Why Do They Hate Us'; 'They' being Muslim men, 'Us' being women. It sparked huge controversy. In Headscarves and Hymens, Eltahawy takes her argument further. Drawing on her years as a campaigner and commentator on women's issues in the Middle East, she explains that since the Arab Spring began, women in the Arab world have had two revolutions to undertake: one fought with men against oppressive regimes, and another fought against an entire political and economic system that treats women as second-class citizens in countries from Yemen and Saudi Arabia to Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya. Eltahawy has travelled across the Middle East and North Africa, meeting with women and listening to their stories. Her book is a plea for outrage and action on their behalf, confronting the 'toxic mix of culture and religion that few seem willing or able to disentangle lest they blaspheme or offend.' A manifesto motivated by hope and fury in equal measure, Headscarves and Hymens is as illuminating as it is incendiary.

A becsület lobogója
Hatvan év telt el azóta, hogy a titkos Sioni Újjászületés Rendje, a Templomos Lovagrend alapítói felfedezték az örökül rájuk hagyott kincset Jeruzsálemben, a Templom-hegy mélyén. A nagyra törő és könyörtelen Plantagenet Richárd király, akit Oroszlánszívűnek is neveznek, újabb keresztes hadjáratot vezet, immár a harmadikat Szaladin ellen, veszélybe sodorva a templomosok becsületét és a Sioni Újjászületés Rendje küldetését. André Saint-Clairt, a titkos rend tagját megtanították arabul, mielőtt elküldték a Szentföldre.

Porodníci v tehdejší Evropě vytvořili svoji republiku vzdělanců", kde se vzájemně osobně znali, navštěvovali, diskutovali, pohotově překládali své knihy do dalších jazyků.
a a porodníka Pierre de la Ravela - uvádí čtenáře do této dramatické doby.
