A complete and thorough overview of different production and finishing techniques and how to make the most of them.
Printing Design for Graphic Designers is a reference book that showcases design projects from all over the world and focuses on the processes that were used to print them. The book opens with a thorough introduction of printing history, from the primitive seal rolls used in Mesopotamia more than 5,000 years ago to today's digital technology. The projects are structured according to their printing specifications, which include cutting and folding, printing and varnishing, UV ink, thermography printing, thermochromic ink, screen printing, abrasive ink, solid colour-gold/silver ink, embossing and debossing and foil stamping. In recent years, with the help of new software tools, designers have incorporated printing finishes into their work. The result is incredibly sophisticated and daring effects applied to a wide variety of items, from business cards to record sleeves, books, posters and art. Printing Design for Graphic Designers is a wonderful journey into distinctive design and surprising creativity and will serve as a remarkable source of inspiration for graphic design and printing sector professionals.
The Periodic Table of WINE
Welcome to The Periodic Table of Wine! Instead of hydrogen to helium, here you'll find Chardonnay to Shiraz - grape varieties and wine names, as you would find wine in shops, arranged following the logical ordering of The Periodic Table of Elements.
Wine expert Sarah Rowland has arranged 127 wines by their essential colour, aroma and flavour properties, from white to rose to red and including sparkling, fortified and sweet wines too. The result is an engaging pocket guide to wine that makes navigating wine lists and off-licence shelves hassle free and easy for anyone.
Do you tend to stick to what you know and like? Find your favourite wine in the table and, in theory, you should like all the other wines in the same column and also the wines immediately to the left or right, regardless of colour, because they all share characteristics you'll enjoy. Then find out why they are similar, how to enjoy them, what to pair them with and even more wines to try in this expert guide.
Look
A powerful exploration of how we pay attention that will transform the ways we connect with one another – at home, at work, and beyond.
Paying attention is a crucial human skill, yet many of us have forgotten how to listen carefully and observe intentionally. Deluged by social media and hobbled by the increasing social isolation it fosters, we need to rediscover the deeply human ways we connect with others.
Christian Madsbjerg, a philosopher and entrepreneur, understands this dilemma. To counteract it, he began a course at The New School in New York City called Human Observation, which lays out the ways that we can learn to pay attention more effectively. The course has been hugely popular since its inception, with hundreds of students filling waiting lists.
In Look, Madsbjerg sets out the key observational skills needed to show how we can recapture our ability to pay attention. Drawing from philosophy, science, the visual arts, and his own life, he offers both practical insights and a range of tools for experiencing the world with greater richness and texture. The result is a dynamic approach to rethinking observation that helps all of us to see with more empathy, accuracy, and connection to others.
Interwar
British architecture between the wars is most famous for the rise of modernism - the flat roofs, clean lines and concrete of the Isokon flats in Hampstead and the Penguin Pool at London Zoo - but the reality was far more diverse. As the modernists came of age and the traditionalists began to decline, there arose a rich variety of styles and tastes in Britain and across the empire, a variety that reflected the restless zeitgeist of the years before the Second World War.
At the time of his death in 2017, Gavin Stamp, one of Britain's leading architectural critics, was at work on a deeply considered account of British architecture in the interwar period, correcting what he saw as the skewed view of earlier historians who were unable to see past modernism. Beginning with a survey of the modern movement after the armistice, Interwar untangles the threads that link lesser-known movements like the Egyptian revival with the enduring popularity of the Tudorbethan, to chronicle one of Britain's most dynamic architectural periods. The result is more than an architectural history - it is the portrait of a changing nation.
As an account of the period that still shapes much of Britain's towns and cities, Gavin Stamp's final work is the definitive history of British architecture between the Great War and the Blitz.
Why We Photograph Animals
A compelling visual anthology of one of photography’s most popular subjects, reframing our understanding of why we photograph animals and why photographing them matters to us and the planet.
A visual overview of the history and future of animal photography, Why We Photograph Animals encourages us to think and rethink the way we have looked at?and used?animals and to consider our future relationships with nonhuman species.
Multistranded, this book features the work of more than one hundred photographers supported by thematic essays that provide historical context; interviews with and contributions by leading contemporary photographers that explore their influences, methods, and motivations; and dazzling visual collections that present the very best animal photography from its inception to the present day.
The result is a book that will engage those with an interest in wildlife photography and the natural world, but also those with a concern for the future of the planet. Huw Lewis-Jones’s expert authorship and curation celebrates extraordinary images by brilliant photographers, but also allows us to understand why people have photographed animals at different points in history and what it means in the present.
Why We Photograph Animals is deliberately not a conventional history of wildlife photography. It’s an exploration of the animal in photography. It speaks to our ongoing desire to look at animals; to understand, misunderstand, and appreciate them; to use and abuse them; to neglect or come to value and protect them.

Flirting with Danger
A picture should tell a story. It should open doors to a mysterious journey of thought by letting its viewers forget the world around them for a brief moment. David Drebin is known for infusing his photographic masterpieces with compelling narratives. Although each of his works is marked by creative uniqueness, his signature style puts a distinct stamp under each image - a romantic melancholy with a hint of eroticism that elegantly invites you into an exciting fantasy. In his new illustrated book Flirting With Danger, the renowned star photographer now presents particularly sensational moments of this theme. David Drebin creates a dream world in a cinematographic way, which, thanks to his hyper-realistic style, seems so lifelike that the viewer feels part of the scenery. Perhaps it is this twist that makes his artworks so suspenseful, or perhaps it is the way he skilfully stages his protagonists. Each of his pictures leaves the impression of its own dramaturgy, which only stimulates the mental cinema. What will happen next? What happened before? The artist's new coffee-table book is now dedicated to the fascinating attraction of the forbidden and the dangerous. Intense snapshots show approaches to the exciting sides of life. The result is a book in a class of its own. In an extra-large format, the artist's pictures can achieve maximum effect and thus skilfully bring the emotions of the viewers to their peak.
Talking Heads
The first book about the science of how, why and what happens when we talk, from the author of In Praise of Walking
Talking Heads is a stunning survey of the science of human connection and communication - from neurons to nations
We are social animals and talking is a defining part of what makes us human. Chatting with friends or debating the future, we move through life in a state of near-constant dialogue, bridging the gap between our inner and outer worlds.
But what purposes does conversation serve? In this revelatory tour of the science of talking, neuroscientist Shane O'Mara explores how and why we communicate, what is happening in our brains when we do it, and what it means for us as individuals, groups and societies. Our brains create our realities, but we shape them by talking.
How do our thoughts, memories, and conversations change the very fabric of our brains? What does it mean that we spend the majority of our thinking lives in a five-minute bubble around the present moment? Why does our sense of self solidify with age, even as we become more forgetful? How does our default mode of trusting what others say both influence life as we know it and empower us to effect change? What does it mean to say we imagine futures together? And how do our very nations begin as conversations?
Moving from the personal to the social and ultimately towards a radical new perspective on the defining phenomenon of our times, populist nationalism, this is the story of how conversation builds the worlds around us - and how, together, we can talk our way into a better tomorrow.

Ítéletnap
Lélegzetelállító hajsza egy ufókatasztrófa szemtanúi után.
A tisztás szélén álló szemtanúk rémült csendben figyeltek, szinte megkövültek, szólni sem tudtak. Megláttuk a sátán képét. Vége a világnak! Eljött a végítélet napja."
A nyomozás azonban rémületes utazássá válik: utazássá a rettenet, a felfoghatatlan események birodalmába

A sivatag fiai
"A látszólag járható út görgeteges lejtõnek bizonyult, a kerék alól sziszegve fröccsent szét a kavics, a kormány félrevágódott, s Morton hatalmas ívben zuhant ki a nyeregbõl. Nyögve, káromkodva és homokot köpködve kászálódott fel a vigyorgó Farrel elõtt. A tiszt lassan csavarodó kormánnyal, lábával is segítve, baj nélkül húzott tovább ugyanazon az úton. ? Így kell ezt csinálni? tanuld meg, öreg fiú? ? Igen, de? golyó repült el a fülem mellett, attól zavarodtam meg? Farrel elvette a gázról a lábát és bokáig belemélyesztette a napsütéstõl forró törmelékbe. ? Morton, te álmodsz. Ideje, hogy elérjük a várost. A másik nyögve emelte fel a kerékpárját, s lassan tolta maga elõtt. Piszkos arcával és bicegõ lépéseivel ellenállhatatlanul humoros hatást keltett. ?

Toiletpaper Magazine 20
The latest creative collaboration between Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari
Since its first issue in June 2010, Toilet Paper has created a world that displays ambiguous narratives and a troubling imagination. Combining the vernacular of commercial photography with twisted narrative tableaux and surrealistic imagery, the magazine contains no text; each picture springs from an idea, often simple, and through a complex orchestration of people it becomes the materialization of the artists' mental outbursts. The result is a publication that is itself a work of art, which, through its accessible form as a magazine and through its wide distribution, challenges the limits of the contemporary art economy.

The West
A radical new account of how the idea of the West has shaped our history, told through the stories of fourteen fascinating lives.
We tend to imagine Western Civilisation as a golden thread stretching from classical antiquity to the countries of the modern Western world. But what if this is wrong?
Told through the lives of fourteen fascinating historical figures - including a formidable Roman matriarch, an unconventional Islamic scholar, an enslaved African American poetess and a British prime minister with Homeric aspirations – archaeologist and historian Naoíse Mac Sweeney charts how the idea of the West was invented, how it has been used to justify imperialism and racism, and why it is no longer ideologically fit for purpose today.
The result is a bold and empowering new story of the people and ideas who made us who we are today.
The New Rural
Back to the country. This is the option of the "new rural", a way of life that has come to stay, paradoxically possible thanks to technology, the Internet and remote working. We are living at a time when the city is becoming congested and does not satisfy us at all, due to costs, square meters, and various sacrifices that result in a poorer quality of life.
In the urban world, going to the countryside has always been an ideal escape to the good life, and today it is more possible than ever. The New Rural shows the interior design of some thirty houses in various rural environments - new houses, converted spaces or rehabilitations which ensure maximum comfort for their inhabitants without giving up the comforts of modern life while making the most of the close link with nature.
