Emil Holub
První cestu vykonal v letech 1872–1879 zcela sám, s nedostatečným vybavením i finančním zabezpečením. Druhou absolvoval v letech 1883–1887 v čele rakousko-uherské expedice. Během svých cest procestoval území dnešní Jihoafrické republiky, Botswany a části Zimbabwe a Zambie. Do Čech přivezl neuvěřitelně početné sbírky etnografických předmětů, přírodnin apod., ale také cenné vědecké poznatky z mnoha oborů, výkresy, meteorologické poznámky apod. Ve Vídni a v Praze uspořádal velkolepé výstavy svých sbírek. Intenzivně se věnoval literární a přednáškové činnosti. Lze říci, že touto činností do značné míry utvářel obraz Afriky a jejích původních obyvatel v zemích rakouské monarchie. Své bohaté sbírky později většinou rozdal vědeckým a vzdělávacím ústavům. V současné době jsou chloubou nejvýznamnějších evropských muzeí.Emil Holub si vydobyl slávu a uznání prakticky po celém světě. Jeho zásluhy byly oceněny vysokými řády snad všech evropských zemí. Mnohé vědecké společnosti a spolky jej zvolily čestným členem. Vzdor všem těmto poctám, slávě a uznání nakonec zemřel takřka v zapomnění a chudobě.

Okavango
For a year, Frans Lanting roamed the wetlands and deserts of northern Botswana, living by the rhythms of the water and the movements of the animals as he captured them on film. National Geographic had sent him there on assignment, but what he would take away was much more than a magazine story; it was a seminal and unparalleled collection of photographs depicting an epic world of wilderness and wildlife. As Lanting wrote, “To many who have seen the fate of other wild areas in Africa and elsewhere in the world, the very notion that such a place as Okavango still exists is like a dream.” Living out of vehicles and canvas tents, gliding through swamps, following lions by night—Lanting, armed with his cameras, got up close and personal with some of the planet’s most formidable creatures.
The book he published a few years later, Okavango, was a testament not only to the wondrous wildlife of the region, but also to Lanting’s extraordinary courage, skill, and photographic vision. After many publications of Lanting’s work, including Life, Jungles, Eye to Eye, and Penguin, TASCHEN now revisits his original classic which drew critical praise worldwide with this updated and expanded edition of Okavango, further enhanced with all new reproductions and dozens of previously unpublished photos, as well as a new preface by Lanting.

Orchideje
Publikace Orchideje podrobně popisuje více než 1 500 druhů a kultivarů orchidejí z celého světa.
Náležejí do největší skupiny rostlin, jež zahrnuje tisíce druhů a hybridů.
Užitečná referenční tabulka shrnuje informace o podnebí a pěstování pro každý druh a komplexní slovník a rejstřík umožňují snadnou orientaci v knize.
O autorech:
NED NASH získal v roce 1975 titul BA v botanice na University of California v Santa Barbaře.
Její práce vyvrcholila publikací Orchids of Malawi. Roku 1997 publikovala v nakladatelství Timber Press knihu African Orchids in the Wild and in Cultivating. Nyní žije s rodinou v severozápadním Skotsku, kde pěstuje africké orchideje a pracuje jako redaktorka
časopisu The Orchid Review.

A dombok mögött a világ

Who Can You Trust
A ground-breaking exploration of how the digital era is revolutionising human trustIf you can't trust those in charge, who can you trust? From government to business, banks to media, trust in institutions is at an all-time low. But this isn't the age of distrust - far from it. In this revolutionary and widely praised book, world-renowned trust expert Rachel Botsman reveals that we are at the tipping point of one of the biggest social transformations in human history.
We might have lost faith in institutions and leaders, but millions of people travel in cars with total strangers, exchange digital currencies, or find themselves trusting a bot. This is the age of "distributed trust", a paradigm shift driven by innovative technologies that are rewriting the rules of an all-too-human relationship. If we are to benefit from this radical shift, we must understand the mechanics of how trust is built, managed, lost and repaired in the digital age.
In the first book to explain this new world, Botsman provides a detailed map of this uncharted landscape - and explores what's next for humanity.

Lacná kniha A szőke nő kalandjai Dél-Afrikában - Miért éppen Afrika?
Minderre s még rengeteg egyéb különleges, egzotikus érdekességre kap választ a kedves olvasó -miközben remekül szórakozik- "A szőke nő kalandjai Afrikában" című kötet forgatása közben.
A szerző Dél-Afrika turista-csalogató tájait sátras, dzsipes szafarik során járta be. E kötetben a zimbabwei, botswanai, namíbiai, dél-afrikai köztársaságbeli, zambiai, malawi és mozambiki kalandjait osztja meg velünk.
Bemutatja mindezen országok egyedülálló, varázslatos látnivalóit, az út során szerzett élményeit, a helyszínen megismert, s összegyűjtött meséit, legendáit, sőt a mindennapi életet szórakoztató módon illusztráló vicceit, megspékelve a helyi ízvilágot reprezentáló receptjeivel.

Living Africa
A remarkable, intimate, one-of-a-kind visual document of the people, places, and wildlife of Africa today. In his new book, Steve Bloom expresses, as no photographer has ever done, the essence and the diversity of this gigantic continent. From the tallest sand dunes in the world in the Namibian desert to the lush green wetlands of Botswana's Okavango Delta, from the swirling markets of Zanzibar to the windswept rocks and gullies of South Africa's Table Mountain, he captures the colors and cultures of Africa today.More than 200 photographs of Africa's peoples and wildlife perfectly encapsulate the vibrancy of tribal traditions and the beauty of the landscape. Here are Mozambican miners who endure harsh working conditions nearly two miles underground, Ndebele women running community workshops, Surma and Mursi women with giant plates in their lips, and many others across the continent, north, south, east, and west.Alongside these stories of human fortitude and stamina, there are awe-inspiring photographs of African wildlife: cheetahs, their coats a blur of color against the sun-bleached background, vast flocks of birds scattered across bright blue skies, and herds of zebras gathered in the African moonlight. 200+ color photographs.

Jáchyme, hoď ho do stroje!
Dokáže si rodič napravit reputaci a obstát před profesory i spolužáky?
