Básník
Martin Reiner se poezií a osudem básníka Ivana Blatného (1919-1990) zabývá usilovně již třicet let. Byl autorem scénáře prvního televizního dokumentu o Blatném a desítek novinových článků a rozhlasových pořadů, stál za převozem Blatného pozůstalosti z Londýna do Památníku národního písemnictví, organizoval slavnostní ukládání ostatků Blatného na brněnském Slavíně a významně se podílel i na umístění básníkovy pamětní desky na jeho rodném domě na Obilním trhu. V roce 2000 začal pracovat na románu o básníkově nevšedním životním příběhu. Blatný zažil v Československu nejprve velkou literární slávu, po své emigraci do Anglie v březnu 1948 pak naprostý pád a snahu o vymazání svého jména z českých literárních dějin. Reinerův román je strhující text, který se zabývá nejen básníkovým životem, ale též literárním kontextem, dobou a místy, na nichž Ivan Blatný žil. Dozvíme se zde mnoho z literárního života první republiky, stejně jako zajímavé detaily z přátelství mezi Blatným, Ortenem, Kainarem, Chalupeckým, Nezvalem a dalšími. Nahlédneme do protektorátních let a hrůz heydrichiády. Po Blatného emigraci dostaneme možnost seznámit se s intrikami, jimiž dlouhé roky žil český politický exil, stejně jako s činností komunistických agentů v zahraničí. A básníka neopustíme ani v blázincích, v nichž strávil většinu z čtyřiceti let svého života v Anglii. Kniha je nabitá dosud neznámými informacemi, zároveň je však silně emotivní. Životní úděl Ivana Blatného je jedním z velkých českých osudů 20. století. Reinerova kniha o něm vypovídá svrchovaným způsobem.
Autor se stal laureátem knižní Ceny Josefa Škvoreckého. Kniha získala cenu Magnesia Litera Kniha roku 2014.

V knize vzpomínek Čtrnáctero zastavení poznamenal Bedřich Fučík o Janu Čepovi a jeho psaní: „Přicházel i později s několika popsanými listy, v nichž nebylo takřka jediného škrtu nebo opravy, a s rozpaky říkával: ‚To jsem psal pro tebe,‘ jako například svou tragickou ocelorytinu Člověk na silnici.“ Čepův přítel, literární kritik, redaktor autorových textů a ve třicátých letech ředitel nakladatelství Melantrich, které tato díla vydávalo, bezpochyby znal zblízka způsoby jeho tvorby; přesto jsme si pokládali otázku, zda jsou jeho tvrzení o tvorbě takřka čistopisů zcela v souladu s podobou dochovaných rukopisů, dnes uložených v Literárním archivu Památníku národního písemnictví v Praze.
Mnohé autografy spisovatele vskutku postrádají razanci škrtů a úprav, jež nacházíme u jiných literátů (Josefa Hory, Františka Halase, Ivana Olbrachta a dalších), přesto se v jeho pozůstalosti dochovala celá série raných fází produkce, autorových konceptů, prvopisů, zápisníků a deníkových zápisů, které dávají tušit, že genetická zkoumání mohou vnést nečekané světlo do poznání autorovy poetiky, do vývoje díla i samotné Čepovy osobnosti. V naší knize se skrze rukopisná zkoumání chceme zamyslet nad vztahem existence a hodnoty, situace a víry, jež formovaly autorův svébytný myšlenkový svět, a mimo jiné se ptáme na autorovy postoje v myšlenkových proudech jeho doby, ať už je řeč o novotomismu, existencialismu a dialogickém personalismu.
