Magyarország Nemzeti Atlasza (MNA) először 1967-ben, majd 1989-ben jelent meg. A 2018 óta négy-négy kötetben, magyarul és angolul is megjelenő új kiadás a lehetőségek függvényében nem csupán Magyarország, hanem hazánk, a Kárpát-medence vonatkozásában mutatja be a természet, a társadalom és a gazdaság dinamikus térszerkezetét. A széles társadalmi rétegekkel való kapcsolattartás érdekében, a kor követelményeihez igazodva, a reprezentatív, nyomtatott forma mellett magyar és angol nyelvű digitális változatban (e-MNA) is meg fog jelenni. A nemzeti atlasz egy-egy ország, nemzet,,személyi igazolványa", a zászló, a címer és a himnusz mellett a legfontosabb nemzeti jelképek egyike. Logikusan, arányosan felépített, viszonylag egységes kivitelű, általában szöveges magyarázatokkal és különféle illusztrációkkal kísért térképek sorozata, amely az adott állam természeti, gazdasági és társadalmi adottságait mutatja be az érdeklődőknek. Új nemzeti atlaszunk köteteinek sorát hazánk természeti környezetének bemutatásával kezdtük 2018-ban. A nagy hazai siker nyomán döntöttünk úgy, hogy a kötet magyar változatát átdolgozott formában, aktualizált adatokkal, térképekkel ismét kiadjuk. A kiadvány egyrészt ismerteti a kőzet-, a víz- és a levegőburok állapotát, illetve az élő világ életterét, másrészt olyan szintetizáló fejezeteket, témaköröket is tartalmaz, melyek a természeti környezet és a társadalom összefonódását, kölcsönhatásait elemzik (pl. tájak, környezet- és természetvédelem, természeti veszélyek).
