Pavel Sztwiertnia se narodil v Třinci roku 1949. V r. 1973 absolvoval lesnickou fakultu VŠZ v Brně. Pracoval jako lesník v Beskydech, Jeseníkách a ve Žďárských vrších v době, kdy v tamních honitbách byl ještě dostatek jelení zvěře. V tehdejších Jeseníkách na přelomu sedmdesátých a osmdesátých let minulého století nebylo vzácné setkat se s tetřevem i s tetřívkem. Namnoze tu dosud existovaly zbytky původních horských lesů, ve kterých tato vzácná zvěř žila.
Kamzíci se tu od jara do zimy zdržovali na holích. Byli zde natolik rozšířeni a přivykli přítomnosti člověka do té míry, že setkání s nimi patřilo i pro turisty k naprosto běžným zážitkům.
Autor tady hodně fotografoval, filmoval, nahrával hlasy zvěře, pěstoval letní i zimní turistiku. Zajímal se hlavně o jelení a tetřeví zvěř. Myslivosti, ke které jej kdysi přivedl jeho otec, se dnes věnuje jen ve specializované formě. Odborně spolupracuje s polskými lesníky, kteří vedou úspěšný umělý odchov tetřeva hlušce. Tento druh vzácné zvěře si nad jiné oblíbil.

Změny nálad při tréninku v hypoxii
Sportovní příprava v přirozeném hypoxickém prostředí je velmi diskutovanou problematikou. Přes četné výzkumy však i nadále existují oblasti, jejichž zkoumání může zefektivnit tréninkový proces nejen ve vyšší nadmořské výšce například změny emočních stavů sportovce jako reakce na trénink v hypoxii, kterými se zabývá tato monografie.
Teoretická část práce pojednává o sportovním tréninku v hypoxii i normoxii, popisuje možné nástroje kontroly trénovanosti a analyzuje změny nálad, ke kterým při tréninku dochází. Praktickou část monografie tvoří výsledky výzkumu zaměřeného na změny nálad u vrcholových vytrvalostních běžců, který byl realizován v reálném prostředí tréninkových kempů v hypoxii. Součástí práce jsou rovněž kazuistiky, v nichž byla využita analýza tréninkové dokumentace sportovců, měření srdeční frekvence a rozbor biochemického vyšetření krve. K měření nálad byl využit dotazník POMS a výsledky výzkumu ukazují statisticky významné změny u některých faktorů tohoto dotazníku.
