Vy ste svetlo sveta
Pán nazval svojich učeníkov soľou zeme, lebo oni nebeskou múdrosťou osviežili ľudské srdcia omámené diablom. Teraz ich nazýva aj svetlom sveta, lebo osvietení ním, pravým a večným svetlom, stali sa aj oni svetlom v temnotách. Veď cez nich akoby cez dajaké žiarivé lúče vylieva na celý svet svetlo svojej pravdy, lebo zahnali zo sŕdc ľudí temnoty bludu tým, že im ukázali svetlo pravdy. Cez nich sme boli aj my osvietení a z tmy sme sa stali svetlom, ako hovorí Apoštol: ,,Kedysi ste boli tmou, ale teraz ste svetlom v Pánovi. Žite ako deti svetla!" (Ef 5,8)
A keď máme to šťastie, že sme boli vyslobodení z tmy bludu, musíme žiť stále vo svetle ako deti svetla. Ak to nebudeme robiť, hrozí, že svojou nevernosťou ako nejakým závojom zakryjeme a zatienime také potrebné a užitočné svetlo pre vlastnú i cudziu škodu. A preto aj ten, čo dostal talent, aby ním získal nebeskú odmenu, a on ho radšej ukryl, ako by ho mal dať na stôl peňazomencom, dostal zaslúžený trest, ako vieme a čítame (porov. Mt 25,26-27).
To znamená, že v nás musí stále svietiť tá žiariaca lampa, čo bola zažatá pre našu spásu. Máme totiž lampu nebeského prikázania a duchovnej milosti, o ktorej Dávid povedal: ,,Tvoje prikázanie je svetlo pre moje nohy a pochodeň na mojich chod-níkoch." (Ž 119,105) Aj Šalamún o nej hovorí: ,,Lebo lampou je prikázanie zákona." (Prís 6,23) My túto lampu zákona a viery nesmieme ukrývať, ale pre spásu mnohých ju treba v Cirkvi stále stavať ako na svietnik, aby sme mali zo svetla tejto pravdy aj my úžitok a aby osvietilo všetkých veriacich.
