Záverečný diel YA sci-fi série od kultového autora Brandona Sandersona, v ktorej ľudstvo buď získa slobodu, alebo navždy padne.
Spensa unikla z nikde, no to, čo videla v priestore medzi hviezdami, ju navždy zmenilo. Čelila tajomným priepastníkom a konečne našla odpovede na otázky o svojich zvláštnych kytonických schopnostiach.
Zvrchovanosť však za ten čas neprestala bojovať o nadvládu nad galaxiou. Hviezdna letka dokázala Winzika zdržať a dokonca nájsť spojencov, ktorí im pri boji za spoločnú vec pomôžu. Je však iba otázkou času, kedy ľudia - a zvyšok galaxie - padnú.
Poraziť nepriateľa bude vyžadovať všetko, čo sa Spensa doteraz naučila. Byť kytoničkou je však oveľa komplikovanejšie, ako si kedy predstavovala, a ona sa bude musieť rozhodnúť, ako ďaleko je ochotná kvôli víťazstvu zájsť. Najmä ak hrozí, že cestou stratí seba samu - aj svojich priateľov.

Tomasz, pracovník národného múzea a detektív-amatér sa po prvý raz vydáva na stretnutie s dobrodružstvom na svojom „novom“ čudáckom aute. Cieľom ich výpravy je legendami opradený Ostrov zločincov. Koncom druhej svetovej vojny na ňom istý veľkostatkár, gróf Dunin ukryl svoje drahocenné zbierky. O poklad majú, zdá sa, záujem viacerí, ani zďaleka nielen preživší členovia niekdajšej zločineckej skupiny pôsobiacej na ostrove. Situácia je mimoriadne zamotaná a nebezpečná, o život môže ísť nielen pánu Tragáčikovi, zločinci, prepustení po rokoch z väzenia sa totiž vrátili, aby si vybavili svoje účty. Okrem toho na ostrove „úradujú“ pytliaci a všetko, ako vysvitne, spolu súvisí. Pán Tomasz, aj vďaka svojim mladým kamarátom zo skautského oddielu Lukostrelcov a tajomnej študentke medicíny Hanke, ktorej otec mal tiež chtiac-nechtiac do činenia s bandou zločincov, napokon polícii pomôže odhaliť nielen páchateľa nedávnej vraždy na Ostrove zločincov, ale so skautmi odhalia aj pytliakov, a vôbec, všetko zrazu do seba zapadá. Ba aj účastníci antropologickej expedície výrazne prispejú k vyriešeniu záhady stratených zbierok grófa Dunina i tajomnej lebky, ktorú mladí skauti nájdu v bunkroch z druhej svetovej vojny. S pánom Tomaszom sa zblíži aj šialene naivná a romantická mladá študentka antropológie, ktorej nikto nepovie inak ako Trieska, či Triesočka (pripomína Pipi, dlhú pančuchu). Práve ona mnohé vysvetlí z antropológie nielen mladým skautom, ale aj samotnému pánu Tomaszovi, ktorý - ako absolvent dejín umenia - je tiež milovníkom histórie.
