Potom sa ma opýtali ťažšiu otázku.
Prečo?
Jednoduchou odpoveďou by mohlo byť, že nemám na výber. No je toho viac. Slovensko nehralo vo svetových dejinách veľkú úlohu, no vždy sa našiel niekto, kto upozornil na našu výnimočnosť. A preto si myslím, že dejiny Slovenska ani nie sú dejinami veľkých udalostí, ale veľkých ľudí. Ľudí, ktorí svojím talentom, činmi a odvahou predčili ostatných a vo svojej dobe boli svetovými.
Paradoxom je, že mená ľudí, ktorí ma pri práci na knihe AHA inšpirovali, nepoznám. Väčšinou ide o vidiecke ženy, ktoré svojou záľubou a talentom vyrazili svojej obci a okoliu jedinečný ráz prostredníctvom ľudovej výšivky.
Ľudová výšivka si stihla prejsť pestrou cestou. Od svojich začiatkov, kedy mala čisto praktickú funkciu, cez obdobia, keď zdobila každý odev a textíliu a bola odrazom určitého spoločenského statusu, až po obdobie, kedy sa stala symbolom slovenskej svojbytnosti a národnej identity. Tradičné výšivky, ktoré boli súčasťou odevu Slovákov niekoľko storočí, boli to najvzácnejšie, čo vlastnili.
Táto kniha je mojím poďakovaním tým, ktorí pred stáročiami nevedomky pracovali na vizuálnom dedičstve Slovákov a svojou prácou inšpirovali celé generácie. Mňa inšpirujú neustále a ich vynaliezavosť, pracovitosť a fantázia sú pre mňa dôvod, prečo som hrdý Slovák.
