Colombian painter and sculptor Fernando Botero (born 1932) is one of the best-known and most celebrated living Latin American artists. Modigliani
Amedeo Modigliani's favourite and most abiding motif was the human figure. His portraits of women, in particular, convey his sympathetic and highly individual gaze. Although his oeuvre consists mainly of paintings and drawings, he devoted himself exclusively to sculpture from 1909 to 1914. Modigliani enjoyed little success during his lifetime, but gained great popularity and recognition after his death.

Jak přesvědčivě dokládá, vizuální umění hrálo v Německu vždy zvláštní roli, jež byla odlišná od jiných evropských zemí, a dobře se v něm zrcadlí jeho bolestný kulturní a politický vývoj po pozdním sjednocení v roce 1871. Bylo to především (ale nejen) vizuální umění, jehož prostřednictvím se Němci snažili najít svou kulturní identitu a v němž projevovali iracionální strach z toho, že budou ovlivněni cizinou.
To se nakonec projevilo zvláště silně ve třicátých letech v bojích o moderní umění a expresionismus (jediný skutečně původní německý styl), jež vyvrcholily jeho násilnou likvidací za Třetí říše.
