The Last Page Cafe

‘I laughed, I cried, and I searched my soul for my own last pages’ Reader review ? –––––––––––––––––––––––––– Sometimes the last page is just the beginning… At fifty-four, Erin McRae feels like she’s living in the margins of her own story. Her son is preparing to fly the nest, and the rent increase on the café she loves to run means she’s going to have to close up shop. Her greatest escape is the mismatched book club she founded, bound together by one unusual rule: they choose their next book based solely on the last page. But when the book club discusses what their own last pages might say, Erin and her fellow members begin to see their own lives in unexpected ways. As the club’s discussions grow deeper, long-buried secrets surface, old wounds start to heal – and romance leaps off the page. With The Bookmark under threat of closure, Erin must ask herself: can she write herself a happier story? Mostly Hero

FROM THE BOOKER PRIZE WINNER AND BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF MILKMANStill eighty-two, still with fifty-seven bullets in her, still dying, and with a blood-trail resembling a post-structuralist anti-principle of a traditional abstracted countercomposition, she was softly cursing and willing herself not to die. Follow Hero the superhero as he saves the world from villains and falls in love with a femme fatale named Femme Fatale. Written by Anna Burns before she completed her dazzling Booker-winning novel Milkman, 'Mostly Hero' is a hilarious, witty, hell-raising romp through a world of superheroes. 'This crazy little nugget from the winner of the Booker prize for Milkman is a brutal satire of the superhero phenomenon. It ridicules the mindlessness of violence and the glorification of the same in popular culture, and that with a touch of feminism.' ? reader review'Out of the ordinary, extraordinary. This is unlike anything.'? reader review'SOOOO WEIRD. SOOOO CRAZY. SOOOO BRILLIANT' ? reader review

Plato's Crito

Many people read the Crito primarily as a companion piece to the Apology and as one of Plato's statements on the nature of politics and the citizen's relationship to the state. This book challenges both of those assumptions and shows, by close analysis of the characters, the argument and the dramatic features of the dialogue, that it is best read as an exploration of the nature and significance of Socratic moral reasoning. It shows that there is a single argument throughout the dialogue and that the 'Laws of Athens' are best understood as supporting Socrates' attempt to convince Crito that a commitment to the currently best rational argument justifies his submission to the death penalty, despite the injustice of his sentence. The importance of the Crito for later political and legal theory is great, but the reception of the dialogue should not blind us to its original intention and significance.

'Intensely readable, outrageously enjoyable action.' - GuardianThe tenth and final explosive episode in the latest sure-fire hit series from the bestselling author of Cherub. Teen rebel and social-media star Robin Hood is in exile in Holland, limited to public campaigning for the rebel cause. In the meantime, the Sherwood Forest rebels have been waging a long bitter war against President Marjorie Kovacevic's troops.
