The Optimized Human
If you want to improve your life, health and happiness you need to upgrade the fundamentals: sleep, nutrition, exercise, work and the mind. And the best way to do this is through applying science, nutrition and even technology to these areas of our lives - the art known as 'biohacking'.
But targeting all of these areas individually can feel overwhelming - and that's where this book comes in. While there is an almost endless array of research into what may, or may not, help your health, The Optimized Human harnesses the most cutting-edge information on science, diet and technology and turns them into a practical, manageable and customizable plan that will revolutionize every area of your wellbeing.
It is the missing manual of the human body, and an essential addition to the library, work desk, kitchen, gym, suitcase or bedroom of anyone who wants to get the best out of their life.
The Lost Voices of Pompeii
We all know how the people of Pompeii died. But what about how they lived?
In 24 hours, Pompeii will vanish.
The morning of the eruption was a day like any other. Julia Felix opens her tavern for another day of business, defying every convention that says a woman can't succeed alone. Petrinus, newly freed from slavery, wrestles with an impossible decision about his future. Politician Gaius Cuspius Pansa prepares to host the Plebian Games, a spectacle that will cement his power forever.
In 24 hours, seven lives will change forever.
Drawing on the latest archaeological discoveries, Dr Jess Venner brings the ancient streets to life through the eyes of those who lived, worked, loved and ultimately met their fate in Pompeii. Here is a community more complex, diverse and human than we ever imagined.
Pompeii is remembered for its destruction, but here we discover the vibrant lives that came before. Richly evocative and immersive, The Lost Voices of Pompeii vividly recreates the final twenty-four hours before the eruption, reminding us exactly what – and who – was lost in 79 AD.
This is the story of everything, and everyone, that was lost.
For anyone who has ever walked the ruins of Pompeii and wondered what lives beneath the ash, this is the book that answers that question.
Remember Me Tomorrow - Holnap is emlékezz rám
Amikor azonban elkezd üzeneteket kapni Jaytől, a titok váratlan fordulatot vesz – ugyanis az üzenetek nemcsak Aleeza saját kollégiumi szobájából érkeznek, hanem egyenesen a múltból, mindössze hetekkel Jay eltűnése előttről.

Vajon a tökéletlen triónak sikerül megállítania a gonosztevőt, mielőtt késő lenne?

Buried Secrets
In March 2017, Tina Satchwell vanished from her home in Youghal, County Cork. For six and a half years, her disappearance remained one of Ireland’s most haunting mysteries. Her husband Richard Satchwell claimed she had left with two suitcases and €26,000 in cash. Gardaí searched the house and found nothing. Journalists interviewed Richard, including one who sat unknowingly just feet from Tina’s hidden grave …This extraordinary book is the definitive account of the murder of Tina Satchwell, told by the journalist who helped expose the truth. It is a story of coercive control, deception and the quiet horror of a woman buried face down beneath her own stairs. Through exclusive interviews, Barry Cummins traces the long road to justice with forensic detail and remarkable insight – from the initial search and media appeals to the cold-case breakthrough that finally revealed Tina’s fate. Part true crime investigation, part personal reckoning, this is a powerful portrait of a woman whose voice was silenced, and of the systems that failed to hear her. It is also a tribute to the persistence of those who refused to let her be forgotten.
Welcome to Murder Week
In this delightfully funny and heartfelt new novel from the author of the “bittersweet page-turner” (The New York Times) The Last Book Party, an American woman travels to the English countryside when she discovers tickets her late mother had purchased for a murder mystery simulation in a small British town. When thirty-four-year-old Cath loses her mostly absentee mother, she is ambivalent. With days of quiet, unassuming routine in Buffalo, New York, Cath consciously avoids the impulsive, thrill-seeking lifestyle that her mother once led. But when she’s forced to go through her mother’s things one afternoon, Cath is perplexed to find tickets for an upcoming “murder week” in England’s Peak District: a whole town has come together to stage a fake murder mystery to attract tourism to their quaint hamlet. Baffled but helplessly intrigued by her mother’s secret purchase, Cath decides to go on the trip herself—and begins a journey she never could have anticipated. Teaming up with her two cottage-mates, both ardent mystery lovers—Wyatt Green, who works unhappily in his husband’s birding store, and Amity Clark, a divorced romance writer struggling with her novels—Cath sets about solving the “crime” and begins to unravel shocking truths about her mother along the way. Amidst a fling—or something more—with the handsome local maker of artisanal gin, Cath and her irresistible charming fellow sleuths will find this week of fake murder may help them face up to a very real crossroads in their own lives. “Full of intrigue and adventure, charm and heart” (Amy Poeppel, author of The Sweet Spot), Welcome to Murder Week is a fresh, inventive twist on the murder mystery and a touching portrayal of one daughter’s reckoning with grief, her past—and her own budding sense of adventure.

Text je pozvaním započúvať sa do ticha, v ktorom Boh hovorí, a objaviť cestu dôvery a svätosti uprostred obyčajného života.

The Patchwork Girl
They degraded her to the point where she'd become this sex thing - this thing that wasn't human, but an object - to the point where she believed that's what she was. The world of abuse and grooming gangs couldn't have seemed further away from Kate's start in life but, as so many young women now know, that matters little. As Sir Keir Starmer's national inquiry into grooming gangs begins, victims from across the country will share the stories of how they were targeted and their lives ruined. For Kate it was a situation that came out of the blue when, aged 18 and at college, her home life deteriorated and she found herself in supported housing for homeless teenagers in Telford. That's where she came into contact with an Asian gang who were grooming young girls for sex. One of the gang, who'd recently come out of prison, forced his way in and raped her before dragging her to a flat next door which the gang used for sex with underage girls, to publicly humiliate her in front of his friends. They threatened her with violence if she went to the police. It was the beginning of a cycle of serial and brutal abuse and rape that is almost impossible to imagine. She suffered mentally with PTSD being passed around between more than 70 men and taken to Morocco as a sex slave. Kate finally was able to report the abuse and some of the gang members were tried and sent to prison. Kate became a Mental Health Nurse in a secure unit in forensic mental health, which ironically includes working with sex offenders. She's become highly skilled in what she does, having an in-depth and first-hand knowledge of the thought processes of groomers.

Last Train to Memphis
The first volume of Peter Guralnick's critically acclaimed Elvis Presley biographies'Elvis steps from the pages. You can feel him breathe' BOB DYLAN'Wonderful' RODDY DOYLELast Train to Memphis is arguably the first serious biography that refuses to dwell on the myth of Elvis. Aiming instead to portray in vivid, dramatic terms the life and career of this outstanding artistic and cultural phenomenon, it draws together a plethora of documentary and interview material to create a superbly coherent and plausible narrative. This is the first of three volumes from music critic and author, Peter Guralnick, and covers Presley's stratospheric rise to stardom up to his departure for Germany in 1958. Last Train to Memphis is undoubtedly the benchmark by which other biographies of Elvis are judged. 'Soars above all other accounts of Elvis' GUARDIAN'A triumph of biographical art... profound and moving' NEW YORK TIMES
