Český písničkář, skladatel, textař, tvůrce jízdních řádů a hledač příběhů ukrytých v krajině Petr Linhart (* 1962) je jednou z nejpozoruhodnějších a zároveň nejskromnějších postav české hudební scény posledních čtyř desetiletí. How Not to Be Human

Autorova kniha vyšla v USA v osmdesátých letech minulého století, kdy dominovala televize, jeho kniha tedy pojednává především o vlivu tohoto média.
V televizi (ale platí to dodnes) je kladen výraz na vizuální stránku, zábavnost, senzačnost, emoce. Zprávy nemají v první řadě informovat, nýbrž být zajímavé. Divák nad nimi nestíhá přemýšlet, protože televize chrlí jednu zprávu za druhou. To ovlivňuje i způsob, jakým se prezentují politici nebo představitelé církví a jakým se učí na školách. Lidé nevolí politiky podle jejich politické vize, ale spíše podle vzhledu a zábavnosti. Žijeme ve „světě kukátka“, kde je informací mnoho, ale nedávají smysl. Být inteligentní znamená spíše vědět o ledasčem, a nikoli to skutečně znát. Z vážných věcí se stává show a z občanů pasivní konzumenti, kteří se smějí, aniž by vlastně věděli čemu.
