Yesterday
The first major account of this transformative period in the history of Great BritainBetween 1990 and 2020, the United Kingdom experienced tension between unparalleled social change and a pragmatic political culture which sought continuity, compromise and gradualism. Thatcher’s legacy was slowly digested, Blair’s ‘New Labour’ thoroughly scrutinized and the decision was made after forty-seven years to leave the European Union. The UK’s long-established major institutions—monarchy, parliament and the union between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland—were sorely tested. Yesterday provides the first fully documented history of this pivotal time in Great Britain. Was the UK in decline? Brian Harrison points to Britain’s unsuccessful adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan and its relative economic decline, underfunded hospitals, sink schools, over-filled prisons and terrorism of both Irish and Islamic varieties. Yet there were successes. Harrison shows how the UK’s participatory institutions outmanoeuvred terrorism and precariously surmounted regional, intergenerational, ethnic and social-class tensions. This vibrant, creative society saw major improvements in time, place and recruitment for work, as well as growth and innovation in conservation, digitization, tourism, consumerism, sport and the arts. Some changes were revolutionary: in family life and relations between the generations, and in the ever-changing electronic media. And if religious observance was in decline, immigrants were introducing new faiths and even a revived religious fervour while attitudes to health and death were changing fast. A panoramic and wide-ranging analysis by a scholar at the height of his powers, Yesterday paints an evocative, richly textured portrait of a people who were shedding their complacency and insularity and bracing themselves to face a very different but promising future.

Wittgenstein, Human Beings and Conversation
This book brings together David Cockburn’s best work on Wittgensteinian themes relating to ‘mind’ and ‘language’. While none of these papers is well described as ‘exegetical’, most are discussions of Wittgenstein, and all are discussions of themes central to his later work and strongly influenced by it. The papers can be roughly divided between ‘the philosophy of mind’ and ‘the philosophy of language’. They are, however, united by the idea that this standard classification of topics stands in the way of clear thinking about core issues, and, closely connected with that, united by the idea that the notion of a human being must be central to any philosophical treatment of them. Cockburn’s approach is marked by the detailed attention given to the human bodily form, and his approach to language by the central place given to the idea of conversation. The discussions are enriched by incorporating some consideration of our relation to non-human creatures. The papers are linked by an insistence on the inescapably ethical dimension of any adequate discussion of these issues. While the debt to Wittgenstein is enormous, a number of the papers involve what may be significant criticisms of him.

There's Something Fishy About My Boyfriend
After years of living on the Shore, Hannah Bell is sure of two things:
1. The family B&B is her future.
2. Men like Xander-mysterious, charming, and un-freaking-believably gorgeous-do not just wash up like some kind of sexy flotsam.
But when Xander appears mostly-naked and half-conscious in the surf, Hannah does what any sane, kind-hearted woman would do: she hauls him into her bed. Her bed and breakfast, that is. It's only polite. But her one act of seaside charity goes sideways fast when her new perennially topless "guest" starts fixing leaky faucets with a wink, charming her with fishy dad jokes, and casually revealing that-oh yeah-he's a freakin' merman.
Not only that, but he's the merman who rescued her a decade ago and then ghosted her like an enchanted Tinder date gone wrong. Rude.
As Hannah reels from revelations and Xander tries to stay one step ahead of the secrets lurking beneath the tide, they'll need to figure out if their surfside chemistry is just a summer fling...or the start of something truly fin-tastic.

Plurilingual Education in a Monolingualised Nation
This book explores alternative approaches to foreign language education in a context which is traditionally dominated by English-only approaches, and widely viewed as highly monolingual. It examines the grassroots classroom practices of teachers and their assistants involved in plurilingual education in the first longitudinal research of its type in the Japanese context. These practices are grounded in depictions of the practitioners’ personal and professional trajectories through explorations of their visual linguistic autobiographies. The holistic ethnography thus deepens understanding of plurilingualism in a hitherto underexplored context, and should be of interest to students and researchers of language teaching, teacher training, language policy, sociolinguistics and plurilingualism.

A transformational guide that blends psychology, life coaching, and spiritual insight to help heal past wounds, navigate life’s toughest seasons, and manifest lasting success and inner peace. Drawing from a decade of experience working with elite clients—from celebrities and athletes to CEOs and pastors—Dr. Bryant reveals a universal truth: success doesn’t shield anyone from trauma, emptiness, or the mental toll of unhealed wounds. In fact, the higher you climb, the more that unresolved pain threatens to undo everything you’ve built. Her unique, psychology-integrated coaching method offers a powerful alternative to traditional therapy—fast, effective, and rooted in both science and spirit. Dr. Cheyenne Bryant shares her own remarkable journey—from a chaotic, love-filled upbringing in a multigenerational home to building a multimillion-dollar estate where her family now lives and thrives—and opens the gates to both her physical paradise and the spiritual and psychological path that got her there. Inspired by the biblical story of Moses, Live Your Promise reframes the challenging in-between moments of life as sacred territory for transformation. It's not the Promised Land, but the wilderness—where discomfort meets divine growth—that shapes who we become. With tools, strategies, and real-life insights, this book is your guide to navigating that wilderness with courage, clarity, and grace. Whether you're just starting out or already living your dream, Live Your Promise will help you sustain success, find lasting peace, and manifest the life you were meant to live.
