Citový a náboženský vývin v prvých pi...
Jezuitský páter Leopold Slaninka, prvý slovenský absolvent Inštitútu psychológie na Pápežskej Gregorovej univerzite v Ríme, vo svojej knihe Citový a náboženský vývin v prvých piatich rokoch života vychádza z potvrdenej tézy, že črty osobnosti človeka sa formujú už v ranom detstve, v zmysle príslovia: „Povedz mi, ako ťa vychovávali, a ja ti poviem, kto si.“ Základy tejto teórie položili osobnosti psychoanalytickej vedy 20. storočia Sigmund Freud, Erik Erikson a Otto Kernberg.

Román Pí a jeho život (Life of Pi, 2001) mladého kanadského spisovatele Yanna Martela (1963) je formativní dílo plné ohromující imaginace.

Like its noteworthy ancestors (Robinson Crusoe, Gulliver's Travels, the Ancient Mariner and Moby Dick) Life of Pi is a tale of disaster at sea. Both a boys' own adventure (for grown-ups) and a meditation on faith and the value of religious metaphor, it was one of the most extraordinary and original novels of 2002.

A Pi életé-t most mi is e pályázat győztesének, a horvát Tomislav Torjanacnak a regény izgalmát és szellemiségét egyaránt ragyogóan kifejező festményeivel adjuk közre.

Humble Pi - A Comedy of Maths Errors
**The First Ever Maths Book to be a No.1 Bestseller**
'Wonderful ... superb' Daily Mail
What makes a bridge wobble when it's not meant to? Billions of dollars mysteriously vanish into thin air? A building rock when its resonant frequency matches a gym class leaping to Snap's 1990 hit I've Got The Power? The answer is maths. Or, to be precise, what happens when maths goes wrong in the real world.
As Matt Parker shows us, our modern lives are built on maths: computer programmes, finance, engineering. And most of the time this maths works quietly behind the scenes, until ... it doesn't. Exploring and explaining a litany of glitches, near-misses and mishaps involving the internet, big data, elections, street signs, lotteries, the Roman empire and a hapless Olympic shooting team, Matt Parker shows us the bizarre ways maths trips us up, and what this reveals about its essential place in our world.
Mathematics doesn't have good 'people skills', but we would all be better off, he argues, if we saw it as a practical ally. This book shows how, by making maths our friend, we can learn from its pitfalls. It also contains puzzles, challenges, geometric socks, jokes about binary code and three deliberate mistakes. Getting it wrong has never been more fun.

A stunning illustrated edition of the multi-million selling Man Booker prize-winner. In October 2005 Canongate launched a competition with The Times to find an artist to illustrate Yann Martel's international bestseller. Soon the competition expanded
as the Globe and Mail and The Age newspapers also launched a search in Canada and Australia. From thousands of entries, Croatian artist Tomislav Torjanac was chosen as the illustrator for this new edition of Life of Pi. This large-format edition, co
mplete with over 40 illustrations and line drawings, will captivate a whole new audience and is the perfect gift for the millions of readers who already adore life of Pi. "My vision of the illustrated edition of Life of Pi is based on paintings from
a first person's perspective -- Pi's perspective. The interpretation of what Pi sees is intermeshed with what he feels and it is shown through use of colours, perspective, symbols, hand gestures, etc." The idea behind this approach is a kind of an ex
tension of Mr. Martel's idea as expressed in this quote: "It seemed natural that Mr. Patel's story should be told mostly in the first person -- in his voice and through his eyes. But any inaccuracies or mistakes are mine." Tomislav Torjanac

Pi in the Sky
Joss is the seventh son of the Supreme Overlord of the Universe. His older brothers help his dad rule the cosmos, but all Joss gets to do is deliver pies. That's right: pies. Of course, these pies actually hold the secrets of the universe between their buttery crusts, but they're still pies. Joss is happy to let his older brothers shine. He has plenty to keep his hands full: attempting to improve his bowling score; listening to his best friend, Kal, try (and fail) to play the drums; and exploring his ever-changing home, The Realms. But when Earth suddenly disappears, Joss is tasked with the seemingly impossible job of bringing it back. With the help of Annika, an outspoken girl from Earth, he embarks on the adventure of a lifetime...and learns that the universe is an even stranger place than he'd imagined. From the New York Times bestselling author of The Candymakers comes a world-hopping tale that leads the reader deep into the heart of the mysteries of time and space. Plus, there's pie.

V Štokholme miznú majetní finančníci a médiá majú svoju senzáciu.
Nitky siahajú až do ďalekého Čile a udalosti naberajú rýchly spád. V podzemných bunkroch, pozostatkoch z čias vojenskej diktatúry, sa odohrávajú zločiny, nad ktorými tamojšia vláda už roky priviera oči.

Life of Pi
Some books defy categorisation: Life of Pi, the second novel from Canadian writer Yann Martel, is a case in point: just about the only thing you can say for certain about it is that it is fiercely and admirably unique. The plot, if that’s the right word, concerns the oceanic wanderings of a lost boy, the young and eager Piscine Patel of the title (Pi). After a colourful and loving upbringing in gorgeously-hued India, the Muslim-Christian-animistic Pi sets off for a fresh start in Canada. His blissful voyage is rudely interrupted when his boat is scuppered halfway across the Pacific, and he is forced to rough it in a lifeboat with a hyena, a monkey, a whingeing zebra and a tiger called Richard. That would be bad enough, but from here on things get weirder: the animals start slaughtering each other in a veritable frenzy of allegorical bloodlust, until Richard the tiger and Pi are left alone to wander the wastes of ocean, with plenty of time to ponder their fate, the cruelty of the gods, the best way to handle storms and the various different recipes for oothappam, scrapple and coconut yam kootu. The denouement is pleasantly neat. According to the blurb, thirtysomething Yann Martel spent long years in Alaska, India, Mexico, France, Costa Rica, Turkey and Iran, before settling in Canada. All those cultures and more have been poured into this spicy, vivacious, kinetic and very entertaining fiction. --Sean Thomas --
