Architecture
A groundbreaking history of architecture told through the relationship between buildings and energy
The story of architecture is the story of humanity. The buildings we live in, from the humblest pre-historic huts to today's skyscrapers, reveal our priorities and ambitions, our family structures and power structures. And to an extent that hasn't been explored until now, architecture has been shaped in every era by our access to energy, from fire to farming to fossil fuels.
In this ground-breaking history of world architecture, Barnabas Calder takes us on a dazzling tour of some of the most astonishing buildings of the past fifteen thousand years, from Uruk, via Ancient Rome and Victorian Liverpool, to China's booming megacities. He reveals how every building - from the Parthenon to the Great Mosque of Damascus to a typical Georgian house - was influenced by the energy available to its architects, and why this matters.
Today architecture consumes so much energy that 40% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions come from the construction and running of buildings. If we are to avoid catastrophic climate change then now, more than ever, we need beautiful but also intelligent buildings, and to retrofit - not demolish - those that remain. Both a celebration of human ingenuity and a passionate call for greater sustainability, this is a history of architecture for our times.
About Architecture
Hugh Pearman deftly guides us through the compelling stories of fifty-five buildings that explain our world, from antiquity to the present day
About Architecture is an engaging introduction to architecture, exploring the ways in which we construct our built environment, and why. Hugh Pearman guides us through the architecture that shapes our lives?from how our towns and cities are organized, to where we live, learn and work, and how we get around, interact with others, and relax. Organized by type?from civic spaces, to homes, offices, and museums?the clear and straightforward structure demystifies the many styles and functions of architecture. Pearman explores how architecture responds to our changing lifestyles and how some buildings evolve or find new uses. He demonstrates that while there is endless variety within each building type, the essence of architecture?the way buildings serve their users?remains surprisingly constant.
Through fifty-five fascinating international examples, from antiquity to the present day, About Architecture reveals the intriguing stories of the buildings that explain our world.

Raumplan a současná architektura / Raumplan and Contemporary Architecture
Kniha zahrnuje ukázky Loosovy tvorby, dále texty historiků architektury a architektů věnujících se Loosovu dílu dlouhodobě také teoreticky (Hermann Czech, Petr Domanický, Jana Laubová, Christopher Long, Dan Merta, Martina Mertová, Maria Szadkowska, Yoshio Sakurai, Filip Šenk, William Tozer) a praktikujících architektů, kteří s koncepty a idejemi architektonického prostoru pracují a dále je rozvíjejí (Alberto Campo Baeza, Sou Fujimoto, Momoyo Kaijima, Mauricio Pezo and Sofía von Ellrichshausen).
A History of Western Architecture, Seventh Edition
Far and away the best narrative of western architecture in existence...it stands out as an intellectual triumph. - Sir John Summerson
In this highly acclaimed, classic reference work David Watkin traces the history of western architecture from the earliest times in Mesopotamia and Egypt to the late twentieth century. For this seventh edition, revising author Owen Hopkins provides a new introduction contextualizing Watkin's approach. The final chapter on the twenty-first century has been completely rewritten by Hopkins, who brings the story right up to date with the inclusion of such topics as re-use, digital cities and virtual architecture.

Islamic Art and Architecture
Embracing over a thousand years of history and an area stretching from the Atlantic to the borders of India and China, this is an unrivalled synthesis of the arts of Islamic civilization. From the death of the Prophet Muhammad to the present day, Robert Hillenbrand traces the evolution of an extraordinary range of art forms, including architecture, calligraphy, book illumination, painting, ceramics, glassware, textiles and metalwork. New to this edition is a chapter ranging from c. 1700 to c. 1900, a period very often neglected in books on this subject. Hillenbrand explores how recent centuries, far from being a dark age, have seen incredible artistic ferment and creativity across the Islamic world. Full-colour illustrations of masterpieces of Islamic art and architecture - from Moorish Spain to contemporary Iran - show the far-reaching stylistic developments as well as the recurrent preoccupations that have shaped the arts of Islam since the seventh century.

Basics of Medical Physics
Kniha obsahuje osm kapitol: Stavba hmoty; Molekulární biofyzika; Termodynamika; Biofyzika elektrických projevů a účinků; Akustika a fyzikální principy sluchu; Optika; Fyzika rentgenového záření a jeho použití v lékařství; Radioaktivita a ionizující záření.
Měl by být schopen fyzikální vztahy uvedené v učebnici chápat v širších souvislostech a popsané metody aplikovat v jednotlivých lékařských oborech.

Experience of Architecture and Art
This book neatly depicts the tension between two different artistic media in the work of Le Corbusier. It is said he used to paint in the morning before spending the afternoon in his design studio.
In the 1920s when he co-founded the "purist" movement, the forms in his paintings found their way into his buildings, and vice versa. But his later works show a different sort of synthesis - the remarkable Ronchamp pilgrimage chapel, with its shadows and coloured light, achieved an almost painterly effect - but without paint.
This book explores this theme in six French locations where the work of Le Corbusier is to be found - Notre Dame du Haut at Ronchamp, Firminy, Saint-Marie-de-la-tourette at Lyon, E 1027 at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin (which features the architect's figurative murals as interior decoration) and the nearby Le Cabanon.
