Catherine Legrand, who has spent over twenty years travelling and researching the subject, has a deep knowledge of the ancient techniques, patterns and clothing traditions that characterize ethnic textile design, knowledge that she deploys to great effect in seven chapters exploring the production of Indigo textiles throughout America, China, India, Africa, Central Asia, Japan and Laos/Vietnam, and the men and women behind them. This profusely illustrated photographic survey features more than 500 photographs, faithfully laid out to reproduce Catherines actual travel notebooks, and is completed by specially commissioned drawings that provide close-ups on patterns and clothes.

Master watch designer and inventor George Daniels was regarded as the finest exponent of his craft in the world. Over the course of his career he laboriously constructed just 25 watches using antiquated tools, creating almost every component by hand. Experts appreciate these watches as milestones in the art of watchmaking, and the timepieces now change hands for sums of up to GBP200,000. This volume features comprehensive images of all of the unique watches Daniels produced in his career. Meticulous photography captures not only each masterpieces distinctive face, but also the detail behind the dial and the intricate workings that power the watch itself. Rare and previously unseen images from Danielss own archive of photographs and working drawings are also reproduced. Michael Clerizo worked closely with George Daniels in the preparation of this book, the craftsman recounting his life and career over their innumerable conversations at his home on the Isle of Man. That ample biography is also contained herein, ensuring that the book is a fitting and authentic tribute to the greatest watchmaker of the twentieth century.

Twenty years after the artists death, this new publication presents a timely and rich overview of the life and work of Francis Bacon. The book includes some 60 paintings as well as photographs, ephemera and archival material largely drawn from the artists studio. An introduction and four essays by international experts look at specific aspects of Bacons work, from detailed analysis of archival material to a study of the influences of Marcel Duchamp. The paintings divide into a thematic chronology of five decades: the 1940s, which looks at the figure studies closely related to Bacons famous Three studies for figures at the base of a crucifixion; the 1950s, where his work is informed by Velazquez and van Gogh, but is also dominated by ambiguous, shadowy figures in sombre tones; the 1960s and 70s, which focus on the portraits and subsequent memorials to Bacons lover George Dyer, who died in 1971; the 1980s, while calmer and more naturalistic, reveal more haunted works which make reference to classical mythology and epic poetry. Each decade is defined by influences in his life and motifs which form part of an evolving pictorial language.

A postcard craze swept the globe, wreaking havoc on international postal systems and giving rise to anecdotes about overburdened postmen who had to leave bags of cards undelivered. Many of these cards were thrown away after they had served their purpose. But not all, as the craze for buying and sending postcards was married to a craze for collecting them. "Inventing Abstraction 1910-1925" explores the development of abstraction from the moment of its declaration around 1912 to its establishment as the foundation of avant-garde practice in the mid-1920s.
