Panel Repair and Fabrication for Vehicle Restorers

Although it can seem daunting, constructing sheet metal panels by hand is very much within the scope of the amateur restorer working from their own home workshop with the minimum of equipment. Often panels that are sold to replace the originals on historic and classic vehicles are not a good fit. Therefore, to achieve a more accurate fit, making your own panels can be the best solution. This accessible book shows how to make, repair and fit sheet metal body panels for historic and classic vehicles.

From Bleriot to Spitfire

The aeroplanes of the Shuttleworth Collection span the first 40 years of aviation from the 1909 Blériot to the late 1940s; these rare and often unique machines are still regularly flown and displayed over the aerodrome at Old Warden in Bedfordshire. This book, written by the Collection’s pilots, past and present, puts the reader in the cockpits of these amazing machines as they fly over the English countryside. THE SHUTTLEWORTH COLLECTION is a private collection begun by Richard Shuttleworth – pilot, racing driver, self-taught mechanic and heir to the Old Warden Park Estate in Bedfordshire. He had a passion for rescuing old aircraft and vehicles, which he brought to the Estate to restore and maintain. Richard died in 1940 whilst flying with the RAF; after the war his mother set up a charity to preserve his heritage.

Porsche Sports Racing Prototypes 1963–1971

Between the 1950s and 1971, the halcyon days of long-distance endurance motor racing, Porsche embodied the up-and-coming manufacturer, progressing inexorably from reliable class-winner to outright victor – a platform they consolidated and never rescinded. This book focuses on the six distinct Porsche models that raced from 1963 to 1971. Porsche created a series of racing cars – the 904, 906, 910, 907, 908 and 917 – to run in the FIA-regulated International Sports Car Championship Group 6 Prototype class, the Group 4 World Sportscar Championship, and European Hillclimb Championship events held during that period. These races lasted either 24 hours, 12 hours or 6 hours, or were categorised by distance: 1,000km, 500km or 500 miles. Events took place annually at European tracks including Le Mans, Nürburgring, Monza, Spa-Francorchamps and Brands Hatch, and in the USA at Daytona and Sebring. Chronicling each season, this visually stunning volume records Porsche’s multitude of successes. With over 300 outstanding images, many previously unseen, including professional photos and factory archive pictures, and featuring interviews with heroic Porsche racing drivers – with the Foreword written by two-times Le Mans winner Gijs van Lennep – this book tells the thrilling story of Porsche’s rise from consistent class-winner to incontrovertible outright victor.

Jaguar XJ40

With a heritage that harks back to the early Twenties, Jaguar is one of UK’s oldest automobile marques still in business. As well being famous for several iconic sports cars such as the XK120, E-type and XK8 along with its many successes in international motorsport, it also has a reputation for producing elegant, luxurious and powerful saloons. These have included the Mk VII, Mk 2 and Mk X, plus eight generations of XJ, all of which set a new standard for their performance, ride and comfort. Launched in 1986, the fourth XJ model – internally known by Jaguar as the XJ40 – not only had a new and more modern design than its more traditional predecessors but also featured an innovative, and at the time class-leading, specification that included a clever onboard diagnostic system. However, never a car without issues – the XJ40’s gestation alone took well over a decade – its many reliability issues would have a long lasting impact on both its reputation as well as Jaguar itself.
