Dream Theater je americká progresívna metalová skupina založená v roku 1985 v Bostone, Massachusetts. Kapelu tvoria John Petrucci (gitara), John Myung (basgitara), Mike Portnoy (bicie), James LaBrie (spev) a Jordan Rudess (klávesy). Dream Theater založili pod názvom Majesty Petrucci, Myung a Portnoy – všetci rodáci z Long Islandu v New Yorku – zatiaľ čo navštevovali Berklee College of Music. Odišli, aby sa sústredili na kapelu. Petrucci a Myung boli jediní dvaja stáli členovia. Portnoy zostal až do roku 2010, keď ho po rozhodnutí odísť, aby sa venoval iným hudobným projektom, nahradil Mike Mangini, a potom sa v októbri 2023 opäť pripojil k Dream Theater. Po krátkom pôsobení u Chrisa Collinsa nasledoval Charlie Dominici (ktorý bol prepustený z Dream Theater krátko po vydaní ich debutového albumu z roku 1989 When Dream and Day Unite) bol LaBrie v roku 1991 najatý ako spevák skupiny. Prvý klávesák Dream Theater Kevin Moore opustil skupinu po troch albumoch a v roku 1995 ho nahradil Derek Sherinian. obdobie turné. Skupina nahrala jeden album (a EP) so Sherinianom, ktorého v roku 1999 nahradil súčasný klávesák Jordan Rudess.
"A View from the Top of the World" je pätnásty štúdiový album, vydaný 22. októbra 2021. Je to ich prvý album nahraný v ich vlastnom štúdiu DTHQ (Dream Theatre Headquarters), ako aj ich prvý album od Black Clouds & Silver Linings (2009), ktorý obsahuje menej ako deväť skladieb, prvý od Dream Theater (2013), ktorý obsahuje skladbu s dĺžkou najmenej desať minút a končí najdlhšou skladbou. Je to zároveň posledný album Dream Theater s bubeníkom Mikeom Manginim, ktorý kapelu opustil v októbri 2023 po návrate pôvodného bubeníka Mikea Portnoya.
