The Minor Arcana of the Tarot
Unlock the esoteric wisdom and hidden symbolism in the four suits of the Tarot’s Minor Arcana: Wands, Cups, Swords and PentaclesThis revolutionary guide offers a fascinating and structured exploration of the second half of the Tarot, which is often neglected in Western occult studies, revealing rich esoteric and philosophic significance. Unlike the more widely studied Major Arcana (discussed in Mebes’ The Encyclopaedia of Occultism), the Minor Arcana – comprising the four suits of Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles – are often dismissed as mundane or purely practical. In The Minor Arcana of the Tarot, however, Mebes elevates them to a level of spiritual instruction, interpreting them as central forces in mystic study, rooting his teachings in Hermetic, Kabbalistic, and mystical Christian traditions. His systematic approach guides the reader clearly through each card of the four suits, including the court cards, encouraging meditative engagement with the cards, and emphasising their place in the wider Western esoteric tradition. Yury Pankratov’s clear and accessible translation from the original Russian is a must-read for any serious student or practitioner of the occult.

The Winchester Constitutional Contribution 1070–1346
First among equals before the Norman Conquest, the ancient See of Winchester was soon overtaken by Canterbury, York and London following the defeat of the Anglo-Saxons at Hastings. Despite this, it retained its wealth and prestige through its geographical position and the bishop’s unrivalled proximity to kings at Westminster and archbishops at Lambeth – thanks to the diocese’s hold on the Thames’ south bank and its base at Southwark. This helped ensure that successive bishops were drawn from among the finest medieval administrators. Frequently serving as Chancellors or Treasurers of England, they had immense opportunity to influence the development of early English government. They played key roles in shaping an effective legal and financial system, in securing Magna Carta and in promoting an embryonic Parliament. A bishop of Winchester was present at most, if not all, major events under the Norman and early Plantagenet monarchs. The Winchester bishop’s removal of the hapless Edward II paved the way for the long and illustrious reign of his son, Edward III.

Monumental Lies
How the past is memorialized can have a dangerous influence on the future. Monumental Lies exposes the truths buried at contested heritage sites and demands that we safeguard the material evidence of history from both malign defenders and over-enthusiastic erasure. Robert Bevan challenges us to rethink our relationship with our contested spaces, from colonial statues and the physical legacy of fascism, to fake post-conflict reconstructions and ethno-nationalist narratives about beauty and tradition. He questions symbolic power and symbolic changes and explains why wording on a plaque is never a substitute for tackling problem monuments through artistic transformations at scale. Songs of Expectation
This novel is inspired by a true story. London, 1881, and another party of child migrants sets sail for Canada, leaving behind all they know in search of a new life. Taken from the slums and workhouses of Britain, they are set to work as labourers and servants, building a nation in a foreign land. Among them is Mary Oliver, desperate to fulfil a promise she made to her dying father; Arthur Dilkes, to whom emigration is just another adventure; Sam Barney, who longs for a new family to replace the one he has lost; Margaret Walsh, who cannot forget the father she has left behind; and Lily, who does not even have a surname to call her own. All are unprepared for the prejudice and hostility they will face, and the obstacles they must overcome. All struggle to escape their pasts. Presiding over them and countless others is Alice Hamilton, obsessed with making her mark in a man’s world, whose mission to ‘save’ these children is called into question by a series of tragic events. A story of heartbreak and courage, Songs of Expectation shines a light on a shameful chapter in British history.
Polis
A definitive new history of the origins, evolution, and scope of the ancient Greek city-stateThe Greek polis, or city-state, was a resilient and adaptable political institution founded on the principles of citizenship, freedom, and equality. Emerging around 650 BCE and enduring to 350 CE, it offered a means for collaboration among fellow city-states and social bargaining between a community and its elites—but at what cost? Polis proposes a panoramic account of the ancient Greek city-state, its diverse forms, and enduring characteristics over the span of a millennium. In this landmark book, John Ma provides a new history of the polis, charting its spread and development into a common denominator for hundreds of communities from the Black Sea to North Africa and from the Near East to Italy. He explores its remarkable achievements as a political form offering community, autonomy, prosperity, public goods, and spaces of social justice for its members. He also reminds us that behind the successes of civic ideology and institutions lie entanglements with domination, empire, and enslavement. Ma’s sweeping and multifaceted narrative draws widely on a rich store of historical evidence while weighing in on lively scholarly debates and offering new readings of Aristotle as the great theoretician of the polis. A monumental work of scholarship, Polis transforms our understanding of antiquity while challenging us to grapple with the moral legacy of an idea whose very success centered on the inclusion of some and the exclusion of others.

A ujišťuje nás, že konec tohoto věku bude počátkem nového, úžasného, v němž budeme sloužit Pánu a uctívat ho s bezhříšnou dokonalostí.
