V roku 2015 zatiaľ ako jediný maďarský spisovateľ získal prestížnu medzinárodnú Man Bookerovu cenu. V roku 2025 mu bola udelená Nobelova cena za literatúru za „jeho strhujúce a vizionárske dielo, ktoré uprostred apokalyptického desu znovu potvrdzuje silu umenia“ Porota ho označila za veľkého autora epík stredoeurópskeho priestoru s väzbami na Kafku či Bernharda, no zároveň za autora komplexnejšieho, ktorý sa nebojí kontemplatívne hľadieť i na východ.

Čoskoro vypukne násilie a knihu ako celok možno opísať ako víziu, satirickú a prorockú, temnej historickej provincie, ktorá je známa pod názvom západná civilizácia. To, čo čitateľa zasiahne najsilnejšie v tejto knihe, ale vlastne v celom Krasznahorkaiho diele, sú neobyčajné vety, vety neuveriteľnej dĺžky, prechádzajúce nevyspytateľne zo vznešeného tónu do pojašeného, posmešného, bezútešného; impozantné vety ako lepiaca rolka zbierajú všetky možné čudné a nečakané veci a neúprosne ich akumulujú do odsekov, ktoré sú zároveň monumentálne, drsné a muzikálne.
