Don Juan előrenyújtotta kezét, mely valami ruhacsomóba ütközött. A csomag olyan nehéz volt, hogy mindkét kezével meg kellett fognia, hogy el ne ejtse. Mire magához tért, a kapu becsukódott előtte. Ha hazaviszi, ott sem tudnak vele mit csinálni. A végén mégis csak elhatározt a, hogy hazaviszi és otthagyja a gazdasszonyánál, azután visszatér, mert biztosan szüksége lesz rá a gyermek anyjának. Nem sokáig töprengett tehát, hanem hazasietett. Don Antonio akkor már nem volt otthon. Bement a lakásba és hívta a gazdasszonyt. Me gnézték a csecsemőt, akinél szebbet keveset láttak. A ruháról, melybe be volt burkolva, arra következtettek, hogy a szülei gazdagok lehetnek.
