Prekladateľ Milan Richter navštívil Amherst, dom a hrob E. Dickinsonovej, ako aj jej archív v Amherst College v máji 1990 a odvtedy ešte vzrástol jeho záujem o život a tvorbu poetky. Výsledkom jeho štúdia Dickinsonovej listov, monografií o nej a ďalšej sekundárnej literatúry, ale aj prekladov do dánčiny, nórčiny či nemčiny je výber Nádej je tá vec s perím. American poet Emily Dickinson is revered around the world, and influenced many feminist artists and writers. Her work is some of the best known and most quoted or adapted.
Dickinson received a very good education, but chose to return home to Amherst, Massachusetts, where she spent the rest of her life, writing more than a poem a day until her death. Her refusal to compromise her highly condensed expression meant that only a tiny fraction of her work was published in her lifetime. Even today, her work feels startlingly modern.
This is a superb collection from a truly iconic poet.
Complete Poems

Envelope Poems
Although a very prolific poet?and arguably America?s greatest?Emily Dickinson (1830?1886) published fewer than a dozen of her eighteen hundred poems. Instead, she created at home small handmade books. When, in her later years, she stopped producing these, she was still writing a great deal, and at her death she left behind many poems, drafts, and letters. It is among the makeshift and fragile manuscripts of Dickinson?s later writings that we find the envelope poems gathered here. These manuscripts on envelopes (recycled by the poet with marked New England thrift) were written with the full powers of her late, most radical period. Intensely alive, these envelope poems are charged with a special poignancy?addressed to no one and everyone at once.Full-color facsimiles are accompanied by Marta L. Werner and Jen Bervin?s pioneering transcriptions of Dickinson?s handwriting. Their transcriptions allow us to read the texts, while the facsimiles let us see exactly what Dickinson wrote (the variant words, crossings-out, dashes, directional fields, spaces, columns, and overlapping planes).

Nový výbor 135 básní geniální americké básnířky 19. století (1830 — 1886), opět v překladu Jiřího Šlédra, navazuje na rozsáhlý výbor 373 básní ve sbírce Neumím tančit po špičkách, publikovaný v r. 1999 (dotisky v létech 2001 a 2004, Argo). Díky mnohaleté vytrvalosti a nadšení jejího věrného překladatele se českému čtenáři naskýtá možnost seznámit se s "nepřeložitelnou" poezií této autorky ve skutečně velkém záběru. Důraz tohoto nového svazku je položen na básnířčino nejproduktivnější období, zejména na rok 1862, kdy vytvořila neuvěřitelných 366 básní, o jednu více než je dnů v roce. Chronologické uspořádání básní bude stejné jako v předchozím výboru, což umožní fanouškům Emily Dickinsonové pohodlné řazení básní do jednoho celku.

Neumím tančiť po špičkách
Nejslavnější americká básnířka z konce minulého století, jejíž poezie se minula s dobou, v níž žila, a ona sama věhlas nezažila.
