1943 tavaszán az oroszországi keleti frontról hazafelé tartó Adolf Hitler repülőgépe leszállás közben - pokolgépes merénylet következtében - lezuhan. Helyettese, Martin Bormann egy évekkel korábban felfedezett, és évek óta erre a szerepre fogságban tartott, utánozó művészt, Heinz Kubyt ülteti a helyébe. Vajos sikerül-e Bormann-nak nemcsak a világgal, hanem Hitler legszűkebb környezetével is hitelesnek elfogadtatni a személycserét? Colin Forbes fordulatokban, izgalmakban, remek jellemábrázolásokban bővelkedő háborús kémregénye a Birodalom végnapjairól szól.

No Mercy

Tweed - once top Yard detective, now SIS Deputy Director - reluctantly agrees to check out suspect Michael, urged by his old friend, Superintendent Buchanan. Found by Buchanan seated on steps in Whitehall, Michael uttered only three words. 'I witnessed murder.' One by one four brutally ravaged skeletons are discovered. Two of them on Dartmoor, near the mansion of Drago Volkanian, Armenian founder of a giant supermarket chain and an armaments plant. With Paula Grey, his assistant, Tweed relentlessly pursues the unknown killer. Among others, he interrogates the strange Volkanian clan: Lucinda, Drago's stepdaughter, steely and moody; her elder brother Larry, the company managing director. Again he meets Michael, the younger brother, who is still unable to speak. He is suffering from amnesia - or so say two psychiatrists. Unlike Buchanan, Tweed insists the horrific murders are not random. A link must exist between the four victims. He also suspects a foreign power is involved. The tempo ratchets up ferociously. With Paula, Bob Newman and his team, Tweed travels to Marseilles, where murder is a way of life. A desperate battle takes place on a mysterious island. Escaping the city alive by a hairsbreadth, they race back home. Later they return to Dartmoor. Who is the fiendish killer? One eerie climax follows another. Could Michael be the key?

The Main Chance

At the urgent plea of his old friend, Commander Buchanan of Scotland Yard, Tweed, once ace detective, now Deputy Chief SIS, visits Mrs Bella Main, formidable matriarch controlling the Main Chance, the most powerful private bank in Europe. Bella tells Tweed and Paula Grey, his assistant, that she has refused an enormous offer from Calouste Gubenkian, the most ruthless and villainous man in Europe. Within days of their visit, Bella is murdered. Tweed and Paula return to investigate the atrocious act. The bank's HQ is based in a huge Elizabethan manor hidden in The Forest, a vast area in the deep south of England. Tweed has already met members of the two families, run by their forefathers for generations. Was Bella murdered by one of them - or is it the work of the vicious Calouste? The movement never stops, changing to Calouste's Chateau Les Rochers in the Belgian Ardennes. A ferocious battle takes place. Two more murders are committed at the manor. Tweed and Paula race to tiny Seacove on the rugged Cornish coast to prevent another murder. Finally, Tweed proves the Bank, founded in 1912, was based on a brutal crime all those years ago.
