The year 2000 saw the introduction of a new "Test of German as a Foreign Language", one that is recognized in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It's a totally new format from the previous test, one which places emphasis not just on knowledge of the language, but on the applicant's ability to work with the language. It requires higher level thinking skills.
