Hercule Poirot znovu na scéne! Cynthia navyše trvá na tom, aby sa počas vyšetrovania ubytovali v rozpadajúcom sa sídle jej priateľov Vivienne a Arnolda Laurierovcov na norfolskom pobreží a spoločne tam strávili vianočné sviatky. Arnold má byť čoskoro hospitalizovaný v tej istej nemocnici a jeho manželka je presvedčená, že bude ďalšou vrahovou obeťou, hoci odmieta vysvetliť prečo. Ak sa chce Poirot do Vianoc vrátiť domov, má iba necelý týždeň na to, aby zločin vyriešil a zabránil tak ďalším vraždám.
