Společenská situace se v posledních desetiletích významně mění: vyvíjejí se nové produkty a technologie, objevují se nové pohledy na podnikání. Mění se ovšem i lidé - jejich priority, zájmy, vzorce chování. Ruku v ruce s těmito změnami musí jít i změny v řízení, a to jak na podnikové úrovni, tak úrovni národohospodářské. Monografie autorského týmu pod vedením Jaromíra Vebera Management inovací si klade za cíl upozornit na význam inovací pro konkurenceschopnost podniků i celých ekonomik, upozornit na nové přístupy inovací a v neposlední řadě připomenout zejména metody, jejichž opodstatněnost potvrdila praxe. Zároveň autoři měli na zře¬teli i tu skutečnost, že inovační úsilí, jako nástroj podpory prosperity, by nemělo být spojováno pouze s materiální výrobou, ale mělo by zasáhnout prakticky do všech dalších oblastí (materiálních i nemateriálních služeb), až po státní a veřejnou správu. Inovace jsou v současnosti vnímány jako významný faktor ekonomického rozvoje, a to zejména díky svému pozitivnímu vlivu na posilování konkurenceschopnosti. Přitom můžeme tento pozitivní vliv vnímat jak z pohledu makroekonomického, tj. jako posilování národní a mezinárodní konkurenceschopnosti, tak z pohledu mikroekonomického – posilování podnikové konkurenceschopnosti. Za přibližně stoletou historii od upozornění J. A. Schupmetera, které se týkalo významu „destrukčních větrů“, jimiž inovace posouvají hospodářský vývoj kupředu, ekonomická teorie i praxe zaznamenala celou řadu poznatků a užitečných zkušeností, které vedly jak k posunům v jednání managementu firem, tak v aktivitách exekutivy vyspělých zemí (zejména ve směru podpory inovací). Kniha Management inovací je rozdělena do dvou základních částí. V první části, která má charakter makroekonomického pohledu na inovace, jejich význam a podporu, je nejprve naznačen význam inovací pro konkurenceschopnost, dále je blíže specifikováno soudobé vymezení pojmu inovací a managementu inovací, jejich vztah k obecnějšímu pojmu změny a managementu změn. Samostatné kapitoly pojednávají o podporách inovací a ochraně duševního vlastnictví (průmyslových práv). Druhá část publikace je věnována mikroekonomickému pohledu na inovace – koncipování podnikových inovačních strategií, realizačnímu cyklu inovací v podnicích. Analyzuje ekonomické aspekty spojené s inovacemi, zejména možnosti financování inovací a ekonomické přístupy k hodnocení inovačních projektů. V závěru této části je pojednáno o metodách a kontrolních mechanismech, které mohou být na podnikové úrovni uplatňovány ve vztahu k řízení inovací.V poslední kapitole, jež má charakter appendixu, se autorský tým zamýšlí nad soudobými záměry německých národohospodářů, které se týkají transformace německé ekonomiky na čistou energii a na tzv. Průmysl 4.0.
