Publikace knihy Hegemonie a socialistická strategie zpřístupní čtenářům a čtenářkám politické teorie další zásadní práci, která v minulých třiceti letech podstatně formovala toto pole. Obsahuje výklad všech zásadních pojmů, se kterými Laclau a Mouffe později pracují a rozvíjejí je. Objasňují zde aspekty toho, co nazývají sociální logikou a poskytují antiesencialistický výklad sociálna (nikoliv společnosti).
Hegemonie a socialistická strategie je situovaná do marxistických a postmarxistických diskusí své doby a rozvíjí spory a pojmy v této oblasti.
