Dnes žije so svojou rodinou a s neprestajne sa rozrastajúcim a pestrým spoločenstvom zvierat v severnej Virgínii v USA. Keď práve nepíše, venuje sa výskumu, navštevuje zoologické záhrady a akváriá, číta alebo presviedča manžela, aby sa v ich dome našlo miesto ešte aspoň pre jedno ďalšie zvieratko. Yumi Shimokawara sa narodila v Tokiu. V roku 2001 diaľkovo absolvovala štúdium ilustrácie v Kodansha Famous Schools, kde sa neskôr špecializovala na kresbu divej prírody. Okrem ilustrovania kníh sa venuje aj ich písaniu. Zbožňuje zvieratá a momentálne žije s vtáčikom ryžovníkom sivým v japonskom meste Čiba. Pre deti od 5 rokov Z anglického originálu preložil Ladislav Holiš.
