Wunderschön und unberührt sei sie gewesen, sagt der Fotograf Bert Stern. Dabei hatte sie nur noch sechs Wochen bis zu ihrem Tod durch eine Überdosis Schlaftabletten zu leben. Als der Topstar unter den US-amerikanischen Werbe- und Modefotografen der sechziger Jahre Ende 1961 von der Modezeitschrift Vogue den Auftrag erhielt, die Schauspielikone Marilyn Monroe abzulichten, war das natürlich noch nicht absehbar. Und deshalb wirkt auch Marilyns letztes berühmtes Fotoshooting in Bert Sterns Klassiker The Complete Last Sitting, das im Buch ein spannender persönlicher Text des Fotografen begleitet, unbeschwert und leicht. Rechtzeitig zum 80. Geburtstag von Marilyn Monroe am 1. Juni 2006 hat Schirmer Mosel jetzt dieses Monumentalwerk wieder vorgelegt. Die Monroe verspielt mit einem schwarzen Kleid (und einer schwarzen Perücke!), lasziv mit nichts als Schmuck bekleidet oder sich im Bett räkelnd, aber auch sittsam im Kleid oder nachdenklich, müde und verletzlich im Profil: All dies zeugt von einer Wandlungsfähigkeit, die man in ihren Filmen oft vermisst. Schön ist die Monroe, auch wenn sie vielleicht nicht mehr dem heutigen Schönheitsideal entspricht. Aber sie ist keineswegs unberührt, da nicht auf jeder Fotografie geschönt: Ihr Alter sieht man der 36-Jährigen auf einigen Bildern selbst durch die Schminke durchaus an. Vielleicht ist das der Grund, warum nur rund 20 Aufnahmen der doch immerhin 2.700 Mode-, Porträt- und Aktaufnahmen (darunter die berühmten Bilder der Monroe hinter einem durchsichtigen Tuch) von der Schauspielerin zur Veröffentlichung freigegeben worden sind. Das war sicher schade. Und umso schöner ist es, dass man nun das Dokument des kompletten Shootings wieder in Händen halten kann. --Thomas Köster

Prečo ľudia rozmýšľajú a správajú sa tak hlúpo, že nakoniec zlyhajú existenčne a celkom si zničia život?
