Léto v řecké taverne
Tom Stone odjel na léto do Řecka, aby tam napsal román – a zůstal tam dvaadvacet let. Na malém ostrůvku Pátmos, kde měl svatý Jan apokalyptické vidění popsané v Knize zjevení, se zamiloval do krásné francouzské malířky Danielly. Svůj román dopsal, prodal a rozhodl se zůstat na ostrově trochu déle.
Po sedmi idylických letech, které na Pátmu prožili, se narodilo jejich druhé dítě a oni odjeli na Krétu, kde Stone učil státní zaměstnance angličtinu a Daniella malovala ikony pro turisty. Ale Stone nechal své srdce na Pátmu. Když mu zavolal starý přítel Theológos a nabídl, aby si na léto pronajal jeho tavernu Krásná Helena, Stone po této příležitosti skočil – ke zděšení své manželky, která ho varovala, že by neměl zapomínat na staré rčení o Řecích přinášejících dary.
