Unhoused - Adorno and the Problem of Dwelling
Unhoused: Adorno and the Problem of Dwelling is the first book-length study of Theodor Adorno as a philosopher of housing. Treating his own experience of exile as emblematic of late modern life, Adorno observed that twentieth-century dwelling had been rendered “impossible” by nativism, by the decimations of war, and, in the postwar period, by housing’s increasingly thorough assimilation into private property. Adorno’s position on the meaning and prospects for adequate dwelling?a concept he never wrote about systematically but nevertheless returned to frequently?was not that some invulnerable state of home or dwelling should be revived. Rather, Adorno believed that the only responsible approach to housing was to cultivate an ethic of displacement, to learn “how not to be at home in one’s home.”
Unhoused tracks four figurations of troubled dwelling in Adorno’s texts?homelessness, no man’s lands, the nature theater, and the ironic property relation?and reads them as timely interventions and challenges for today’s architecture, housing, and senses of belonging. Entangled as we are in juridical and financial frameworks that adhere to a very different logic, these figurations ask what it means to organize, design, build, and cohabit in ways that enliven non-exclusive relations to ourselves, others, objects, and place.

Josef Albers
While Josef Albers' Bauhaus colleagues Klee and Kandinsky are household names, Albers himself has remained inscrutable. He is best known as the painter of the Homages to the Square, a series of over 2,000 seemingly tightly controlled experiments in the interaction of colour. Yet he did not begin these pictures until he was in his sixties, already several decades into his career as an artist, maker and theorist, much of it pursued in the United States following the Nazi dissolution of the Bauhaus in 1933.
Misunderstanding of the Homages reflects a wider misreading of Albers' life and work. Married to the textile artist Anni Albers, his papers include letters from fellow artists John Cage, Robert Rauschenberg, Richard Serra and Eva Hesse; colleagues such as Buckminster Fuller and Philip Johnson; and fans and collectors ranging from the composer Virgil Thomson to the cartoonist Saul Steinberg. If his network of influence was surprisingly wide, so, too, were his interests. Albers started life at the Bauhaus as a glassmaker, ran their renowned wallpaper workshop, and designed furniture that is still in production eighty years later. He pioneered the study of colour at Black Mountain College, organized its famed `Summer Sessions' with guest tutors from Willem de Kooning to Merce Cunningham, and went on to head the design department at Yale.
Drawing on extensive unpublished writings, documents and illustrations, Darwent offers a broad view of not only the artistic and political currents, but also the friendships and rivalries that formed the backdrop to Albers' creative output.

Art Brut Collection: Architecture
Architecture, the second Art Brut Biennale, presents a selection of works from the Art Brut Collection (Lausanne), linked together by a common theme. The exhibition and the catalogue show the public new works by perhaps lesser-known authors, while taking a new slant on some historical pieces. Running the gamut from reality to utopia, Art Brut authors design architectures in resonance with their everyday lives or their memories, reorganising the space around them according to their own rules and needs. Their imag- ination and inventiveness carries them to distant, unexplored lands. Yet the vision of architecture that these Art Brut authors offer us here opens up a new dimension, escap- ing all practical considerations. Over 250 works by 52 creators of all origins - European, North American, or Asian - have been selected for the exhibition. This book presents colour illustrations, a short biography, and a bibliography for each artist. The diversity at the heart of this concept can be seen in the many different forms and techniques used, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, and embroidery.
Among the artists: Aloi se, Juliette Elisa Bataille, Filippo Bentivegna, Georges Berthomier, Gregory Lee Blackstock, Benjamin Bonjour, Edouard Boschey, Luigi Brunetti, Andre Car, Diego, Paul Duhem, Paul End, Samuel Failloubaz, Florent, Jacqueline Fromenteau, Willem Van Genk, Jules Godi, Heer, Magali Herrera, Stefan Holzmu ller,Testuaki Hotta, Norimitsu Kokubo, F. Kouw, Helmut Nimczewski, Nikifor, Prinz Otto, E mile Ratier, Royal Roberston, Hans Saletmeier, Victorien Sardou, Yuri Titov, Johann Tro sch, Yuji Tsuji, Berthe Urasco, Pepe de Valence, Pascal Verbena, Scottie Wilson, Adolf Wo lfli.Building on the legacy of some five thousand pieces collected by Jean Dubuffet between 1945 and 1971, the Art Brut Collection now owns over sixty thousand works, the fruit of nearly forty years of research. Architectures is the second volume in the series Art Brut - The Collection, published by 5 Continents and the Swiss institution, after Vehicles (2014).

Kívülről nézve Eva Braun - fiatal, szőke, sportos, vonzó, életvidám - a legkevésbé sem illett a privát fotóin öregesnek és merevnek ható Hitlerhez a maga 'pszichopata ábrázatával' (Joachim Fest). (...) Olyan privát ellenvilágban élt a szeretőjével, amely alapvetően különbözött a hivatalosan megfestett 'Führer-képtől'?"
