Fenomenologické redukce a vzdělání

Held
The triumphant new novel from the author of the Orange Prize-winning Fugitive Pieces: a soaring and luminous story of chance and change
1917. On a battlefield near the River Aisne, John lies in the aftermath of a blast, unable to move or feel his legs. Struggling to focus his thoughts, he is lost to memory – a chance encounter in a pub by a railway, a hot bath with his lover on a winter night, his childhood on a faraway coast – as the snow falls.
1920. John has returned from war to North Yorkshire, near another river – alive, but not still whole. Reunited with Helena, an artist, he reopens his photography business and endeavours to keep on living. But the past erupts insistently into the present, as ghosts begin to surface in his pictures: ghosts whose messages he cannot understand.
So begins a narrative that spans four generations, moments of connection and consequence igniting and re-igniting as the century unfolds. In luminous moments of desire, comprehension, longing, transcendence, the sparks fly upward, working their transformations decades later.
Held is a novel like no other, by a writer at the height of her powers: affecting and intensely beautiful, full of mystery, wisdom and compassion.
Ten Trips
A neuropsychologist takes ten different drugs in this panoramic view of psychedelics today
Once demonised and still largely illegal, psychedelic drugs are now officially a 'breakthrough therapy', used to treat depression, trauma and addiction and to enhance well-being. But as neuropsychologist Andy Mitchell shows in this deeply serious yet wildly entertaining investigation, this approach misses what is so strange and valuable about them: the psychedelic experience itself.
In Ten Trips he takes ten different drugs in ten different settings, journeying from a neuroimaging lab in London to the Colombian Amazon via Silicon Valley and his friend's basement kitchen. His encounters with scientists and gangsters, venture capitalists and con-men, psychonauts and shamans provide a panoramic view of psychedelics today: their capacity for healing but also trauma, for transcendence and corruption, profundity and hilarity.
By removing psychedelics from their indigenous and underground cultures, we risk losing the very things we need to harness them. To make them safe or normal might ultimately destroy what makes them potent. That potential is indeed great, not as an antidote to mental illness - none exists - but as a way of changing our whole perspective on mental health and flourishing.
Ten Trips is a dazzling, perception-shifting odyssey that shows how psychedelics can re-enchant us with the world.
Teiga Podobně jako ostatní svazky edice Skrytá moderna publikace přispívá ke zplastičtění obrazu českého modernismu první poloviny 20. století a podněcuje nová promýšlení tohoto mnohovrstevnatého fenoménu
The Philosophy of Modern Song
The Philosophy of Modern Song is Bob Dylan's first book of new writing since 2004's Chronicles: Volume One - and since winning the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016.
Dylan, who began working on the book in 2010, offers his extraordinary insight into the nature of popular music. He writes over 60 essays focusing on songs by other artists, spanning from Stephen Foster to Elvis Costello, and in between ranging from Hank Williams to Nina Simone. He analyses what he calls the trap of easy rhymes, breaks down how the addition of a single syllable can diminish a song and even explains how bluegrass relates to heavy metal. These essays are written in Dylan's unique prose. They are mysterious and mercurial, poignant and profound, and often laugh-out-loud funny. And while they are ostensibly about music, they are really meditations and reflections on the human condition. Running throughout the book are nearly 150 carefully curated photos as well as a series of dream-like riffs that, taken together, resemble an epic poem and add to the work's transcendence.
In 2020, with the release of his outstanding album Rough and Rowdy Ways, Dylan became the first artist to have an album hit the Billboard Top 40 in each decade since the 1960s. The Philosophy of Modern Song contains much of what he has learned about his craft in all those years and, like everything that Dylan does, it is a momentous artistic achievement.

A Ballet of Lepers
An uncovered novel from the world's greatest lyricist Leonard Cohen.
In A Ballet of Lepers Leonard Cohen explores themes that would come to permeate his later works - shame stemming from feelings of unworthiness; sexual desire, in all its sacred and profane dimensions; and longing, whether it be for love, family, freedom or transcendence. A haunting examination of these elements in tandem, this novel and stories are about toxic relationships and the lengths we go to maintain them.
Meditative and surprising, A Ballet of Lepers offers a playful, provocative and penetrating glimpse into the world-weary lives of Cohen's characters, and a window into the early art of a storytelling master.
About the Author
Leonard Cohen began his artistic career in 1956 with the publication of his first book of poetry, Let Us Compare Mythologies. He went on to publish 12 more books, including two celebrated novels, and gained worldwide recognition as an iconic singer-songwriter. He released 14 studio albums, including three in the last years of his life when he also became one of the most acclaimed arena-performing artists in the world.
Among his numerous honours, he is the recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award 2010, the Prince of Asturias Award for Literature 2011, the inaugural New England PEN Award for Excellence in Lyrics 2012, the 2016 Juno Awards for Song of the Year and Album of the Year, and he has been inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the US Songwriters Hall of Fame. He died in November 2016.
Arthur, The Amazing Mantis
A Soulful Story for Nature Lovers of All Ages
This is the story about a relationship between an insect and a human being. It is a story of serendipity and delight, respect and wonder, and the ultimate understanding that we are all truly connected by an invisible and sacred web.
A praying mantis mysteriously dropped from above one early October day. I named him Arthur. He spent almost a month with me, and during that time we formed a mutually curious and tender bond. The photographs I made when we were together became the inspiration to share this story, a soulful, quiet account of our connection.
Arthur, the Amazing Mantis is a beautifully told story of two gentle souls that find one another, connecting through spirit and the universal language of love. It took me back to a place of childlike innocence and remembering the simple, sacred, quiet aspects of life that if we are moving too fast may go unnoticed. —Amy Norris
By taking the time to carefully observe and connect with a tiny creature that so many of us would have overlooked, Elsa Kendall has given us a magically microcosmic story of love, purpose, loss, and transcendence. Her heartfelt story and beautiful "be-here-now" documentary photographs powerfully connect the reader to little Arthur, the truly amazing mantis — and to a world of wonder available to all of us if we just take the time to slow down, stop, look and care. —George Lawrence

Príbuzní: Život, láska, smrť a umenie neandertálcov
Leadership: Six Studies in World Strategy
Henry Kissinger analyses how six extraordinary leaders he has known have shaped their countries and the world
'Leaders,' writes Henry Kissinger in this compelling book, 'think and act at the intersection of two axes: the first, between the past and the future; the second between the abiding values and aspirations of those they lead. They must balance what they know, which is necessarily drawn from the past, with what they intuit about the future, which is inherently conjectural and uncertain. It is this intuitive grasp of direction that enables leaders to set objectives and lay down a strategy.'
In Leadership, Kissinger analyses the lives of six extraordinary leaders through the distinctive strategies of statecraft which he believes they embodied. After the Second World War, Konrad Adenauer brought defeated and morally bankrupt Germany back into the community of nations by what Kissinger calls 'the strategy of humility'. Charles de Gaulle set France beside the victorious Allies and renewed its historic grandeur by 'the strategy of will'. During the Cold War, Richard Nixon gave geostrategic advantage to the United States by 'the strategy of equilibrium'. After twenty-five years of conflict, Anwar Sadat brought a vision of peace to the Middle East by a 'strategy of transcendence'. Against the odds, Lee Kwan Yew created a powerhouse city-state, Singapore, by 'the strategy of excellence'. Although when she came to power Britain was known as 'the sick man of Europe', Margaret Thatcher renewed her country's morale and international position by 'the strategy of conviction'.
To each of these studies, Kissinger brings historical perception, public experience and - because he knew each of their subjects, and participated in many of the events he describes - personal knowledge. The book is enriched by insights and judgements such as only he could make, and concludes with his reflections on world order and the indispensability of leadership today.

The Creative Act
Many famed music producers are known for a particular sound that has its day and then ages out. Rick Rubin is known for something else: creating a space where artists of all different genres and traditions can home in on who they really are and what they really offer. He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable.
Over the years, as he has thought deeply about where creativity comes from and where it doesn't, he has learned that being an artist isn't about your specific output; it's about your relationship to the world. Creativity has a place in everyone's life, and everyone can make that place larger. In fact, there are few more important responsibilities.
The Creative Act is a beautiful and generous course of study that illuminates the path of the artist as a road we all can follow. It distils the wisdom gleaned from a lifetime's work into a luminous reading experience that puts the power to create moments - and lifetimes - of exhilaration and transcendence within closer reach for all of us.
A protože právě o tom s gustem a zalíbením oba autoři diskutují, zůstává jejich kniha, navzdory svým velkým ambicím, především čtenářsky atraktivní.

Idea fenomenologie

V knižke nachádzame vyvážený celok lyrických reflexií vnútorných zážitkov a vnímania okolitého sveta so silným meditatívnym akcentom i poukazom na transcendentné polohy bytia. Tradičné poetické formy autor oživuje drobnými útvarmi, sčasti inšpirovanými východným umením tvorby miniatúrnych krajiniek – saikei, a troma rozsiahlejšími kompozíciami. Dielo uzatvára krátkym esejistickým textom Božský rez, ktorý poukazuje na autorove inšpiračné zdroje i básnické smerovanie.
