The Summer We Crossed Europe in the Rain
Memorably introduced by Ishiguro himself, The Summer We crossed Europe in the Rain collects the sixteen song lyrics he has written since 2007 for world-renowned American singer, Stacey Kent, which were set to music by her partner Jim Tomlinson. An exquisite coming together of the literary and musical worlds, the lyrics are infused with a sense of yearning, melancholy, love, and the romance of travel and liminal spaces.
Further exploring the notion of collaboration and interpretation, the collection is illustrated by the acclaimed Italian artist, Bianca Bagnarelli whose work perfectly captures the atmosphere and sensibility of the songs.
The Story Smuggler
'Some smuggle cigarettes, others alcohol - or weapons.
Our contraband, being invisible, is more dangerous.
Our contraband is undetectable by scanners.
What we carry as concealed excess baggage is stories.'
In this exquisite literary gem, Georgi Gospodinov, winner of the International Booker Prize, invites the reader on a winding journey through his own memories.
He shows us a childhood under Communism, a particularly Bulgarian variety of melancholy, the freedom and thrills found in reading and writing, and the coming of age of one extraordinary writer.
Ultimately, this profound, playful and deeply moving autobiographical text offers resounding proof of the power and importance of storytelling.

Collected Stories
A man at his desk is interrupted by the appearance of a woodland elf in his room; the piano maestro Bachmann ends his career; a barber shaves the face of a man who once tortured him; a shy dreamer makes a deal with the Devil. In these sixty-five stories of magic and melancholy, Nabokov displays an astonishing range of inventiveness, with dazzling sleight of hand, fantastical fairy tales, intellectual games, and enchanting glimpses into lives of ambiguity and loss.
The collection displays Nabokov's astonishing range of technical and formal inventiveness: the dazzling sleight of hand, fanciful fairy tales, ingenious puzzles, enchanting vignettes, and haunting melancholic narratives full of disturbing ambiguities.
Goodbye Russia
In 1940 Sergei Rachmaninoff, living in exile in America, broke his creative silence and composed a swan song to his Russian homeland. What happened in those final haunted years and how did he come to write his farewell masterpiece, the Symphonic Dances?
Rachmaninoff left Petrograd in 1917 in the throes of the Russian Revolution. He was 44 years old, at the peak of his powers as composer-conductor-performer, moving in elite Tsarist circles, as well as running the family estate, his refuge and solace. He had already written the music which, today, has made him one of the most popular composers of all time: the second and third Piano Concertos and two symphonies. The story of his years in exile in America and Switzerland, has only been told in passing. Reeling from the trauma of a life in upheaval, he wrote almost no music and quickly had to reinvent himself as a feted virtuoso pianist, building up untold wealth and meeting the stars- from Walt Disney and Charlie Chaplin to his Russian contemporaries and polar opposites, Prokofiev and Stravinsky.
Yet the melancholy of leaving his homeland never lifted. Using a wide range of sources, including important newly translated texts, Maddocks' immensely readable book conjures impressions of this enigmatic figure, his friends and the world he encountered. It explores his life as an emigré artist and how he clung to an Old Russia which no longer existed. That forging of past and present meets in his Symphonic Dances (1940), his last composition, written on Long Island shortly before his death in Beverly Hills, surrounded by a close-knit circle of Russian exiles.

Isztambul
A városportré egyben önarckép is: miközben a szerző Isztambul különös sorsán mereng, régi metszeteket és fényképeket nézegetve megidézi birodalmi múltját, fájdalmas szeretettel szemléli romos jelenét, csodálja nagyszerű íróit, s próbálja megfejteni a minden isztambulira jellemző melankólia, a hüzün érzését, a saját lelkébe is mind mélyebbre hatol.
Miért érezte magát mindig idegennek a saját életében?

A vörös zoknis menyasszony
Újságírónak tanult, 1998-tól a Román Kulturális Rádiónál dolgozik.
